Default The Smurf is getting potty trained, I'm a big boy

Ok so I created an intro and now im on to a build thread. Short boring gotta do back story........ I started having fun with hondas for a few years that consisted of a 91 civic ef front end with a b18, from there a slammed odyessey on 18's, to a ek coupe with too much pointless money. I than smartened up and bought a 91 miata bone stock mariner blue 1.6 open dif.
the first year i slammed it swapped wheels did style bar swapped to roll bar went race seat did some custom uphoulstery got new body panels got paint some odd stuff just to make it mine. This year we are in for some fun, we are going turbo!!!!!!(fans cheer in the backround, riots break out in the streets) so for now im going to compile a list of what i have installed, what i have purchased and what i need to purchase.
installed(all since purchase date 10/14)
coils
frame rails flyin miata
top seals moss miata
shifter rebuild moss miata
mishimoto dual core
begi coolant reroute
fancy k&n filter custom heatshield
harddog double diagonal
kirkey pro drag
diy door panels and shift boots
upgraded radio and front speakers
lips all around
new front bumper, trunklid and finish panel
momo steering wheel nrg quick release, momo shift ****
revlimiter badges and gauges
tinted side windows
broadway mirror yes in a conv.
powdered vc
ac delete
parts purchased not installed
1.8 rear diff with axles and driveshaft
mspnp 1.3 with laptop and iat
garrett 2560r brand new
diy turbo kit from fm
15x9 jongbloed
420 cc rx8 injectors
autometer boost gauge
bmw vtps
aem wideband and 02
oil drain supplies
spare oil pan to have bung welded
hks blow off
parts need to buy
exhaust parts doing a magnaflow with 3" and v bands
have to send out injectors to get cleaned and seals
act heavy clutch

these are everything we have with loads of printed information and books and hours on this site. If there is anything im missing i possibly forgot to write it or we forgot about it. I have my friend helping and keeping me sane with this project hes very knowledgeable and has properly built talons bmw's an evo we have progressed a genesis, fixed dumb hondas not new but new to megasquirt. He's not nervous but than again its my money and car so i am nervous. Luckily a summer toy any help insight or critisism would be appreciated. Thankyou guys for letting me be apart of the community. Here are some pictures old ones ill put together more as the shipped parts come in.
now how it looks

here is my needed facebook post! So heres the update, turbo showed up yesterday, my muffler should be here today. Yesterday sent out the injectors to be tested with new seals, ordered a timing belt waterpump kit, made sense to do while motor is out. found my friends large box of v bands and mandrel bend 3" pipes.

Update:
Flywheel came in, sent out to get resurfaced. I also brought my car to my brothers so that i could get started on this fun project. i honestly think my buddy is more excited for boost than I am. I will say however after three months of hibernating it was great to drive it again. I also just ordered a new handbrake from garage star same as Sharka, and a new badge for the finish panel from Adam to match my front emblem that i already have on, also took advatange of Moss Miatas free shipping and ordered my harness bar. Tomorrow we are planning on starting early and getting MS in and hooking up my wideband. Tracking shows that Boost and vtps should be in today and the Jongbloeds should be here wednesday. As well as an email back from MR. Injector about my injectors being shipped back to me(great communication and turn around) The only unfourtunate is that FM still hasnt shipped my kit out something about waiting on one clamp, but hopefully that will be this week though we do have alot to do before than. Plan is install MS, install injectors, pull motor and tranny fix coolant weep from reroute install Act clutch and do my timing belt waterpump and rear end, Than install turbo and build exhaust.
Things still need to purchase
Kirkey pass seat to match drivers probably go a little bigger never know who you have for a passenger
Straight section of 3" pipe for exhaust
Any random bits along the way that we havent covered aka(knock)

Flywheel is back resurfaced, Wheels came in i put them on 205 50's. Also we decided to get it remote tuned, we were having a few complications with mspnp 1.3 and its just easier for now to focus on all the other aspects. Probably later i will upgrade to mspnp2 or ms3. Last night we test fitted the wheels than put it up and started the tear down. Exhaust removed, coolant drained, fuel lines disconnected, intake off, just prepping so we can pull the motor. I believe when we get back over there this weekend we can get the motor out to do the timing, clutch, fix coolant leak, clean paint block and clean transmission. In the mean time i am going to drop off the pan and have the bung welded. here are a few pics of last night

Little more info, the engine will be degreased, wire brushed, and painted with Eastwood high temp ceramic engine paint. The stuff is really nice, most things just wipe clean off it. Clutch and flywheel is going to be a 1.8 setup. Injectors came back, they flowed 440cc so that is a plus.

Hopefully we will have the motor back in this weekend cleaned up and ready for the turbo install, I'm sure Todd will continue to update this thread.

So daily stuff going on, I purchased the comp motor mounts from Moss Miata again taking advantage of their free shipping. Justin was pushing towards doing them while the motor is out and he makes points that i can't argue. Also found a local welder that works with my shop today, I gave him my pan and bung at 915 or so and at 129 i had it back.

We plan to go over tomorrow night and probably have the motor out than get back over saturday, as he stated degrease, paint, clutch, pan swap, coolant fix.

New updates:
So last night we got the motor and tranny out, seperated the transmission and pulled the clutch, it looks as tho recently before me the clutch must have been replaced, and a blind man with a rock resurfaced the flywheel(badly cut and scraped) by ten we were ready to call it a night. Today the plans are too oscrub and clean the block and tranny, install new clutch, injectors, new gasket on rear thermo neck. Only downfall it seems is that my radiator possibly is suffering a minor leak thru the fins(anyone on here a dealer, i didnt purchase direct from mishi i bought thru a dealer but cant honestly remember who, we have to research) so heres a few pics to show the dirt.

Ok so i have to try and remedy this -1 cat situation. I'm not too sure how you recieve cats on this page, but what i do know is that i have a cat 20160228_213933 by todd wilson, on Flickr
Now on to a less stressing subject, i have cleaned the tranny did some block cleaning, we noticed the rear main seal is possibly leaking so we will be replacing that. Still not a front on radiator replacement tho we did find who we bought it from. Tomorrow night we will be going over to replace the seal, bolt on clutch setup, mate tranny and install the new motor mounts to prep for return to car. Also i installed the harness bar

Turbo kit should be in at the end of the week so hopefully this weekend we will have the motor back in. New Gates timing belt and waterpump were done last weekend. There is a warranty claim in at Mishimoto for a new radiator, the core is leaking on this one.

The pan is off and everything looked good in there, going to get it sealed up and back together tomorrow night. With any luck we will get the clutch and flywheel on, mate the trans back up with the block and drop it in.

I found some v-band clamps and flanges for the exhaust, v-band FTW. It will be a while before it is built, but it will be a 3" from the downpipe back, no cat, magnaflow muffler, a flex pipe somewhere at the front. Should be more than adequate for the little 1.6

So for starters i'd like to put that we get probably three hours every couple of nights to work on this, so this explains why we have slow progress going on. Last night we were able to fix the rear main seal, bolt the 1.8 flywheel, bolt the clutch, clean and mount the new oil pan, i got new gaskets on the thermostat housing and we mated the transmission. We plan to get back over friday night so we could put the motor back in the car, being that we need the hoist to do a motor in his brothers truck. here is to the pictures

Good news update!
So we heard back from Mishi and after finding my reciept and sending vin and such we will be getting a replacement for only paying shipping! Also the rest has arrived for the turbo parts. The plan for tonight we will get there around 740 probably, get the transmission fully mounted, reinstall starter, mount on the motor mounts, dipstick tube, upper rad hose, and get the motor back bolted in the car. Depending on where we are on time possibly mount the manifold and reinstall the water tube as well as run tb side of piping. This weekend we have to get started on swapping a motor in his brothers dakota, hopefully a nice smooth remove- install but knowing the luck of this truck i doubt it. Anyway here are a few pics and ill be sure to update tomorrow with our progress.

So we got some more progress done. transmission bolted, starter in, dipstick tube in, enging bolted in bay, front mount put inplace. Its starting to come together. Unfourtunatly now we have to jump off to get this dakota done. All I can say is im amazed by the fact this is going so smoothly, I think its a mixture of rust free and buying a kit instead of piecing together things.

Well I hope everyone had a great weekend, it looks like the winter is leaving us here in NE. Saturday we accomplished alot for not thinking we were gonna be working on the miata. We placed the VC, hooked up fuel lines, cut shelf (per FM's instructions), I remounted the as box with ac fully removed, test fitted more ic piping and mounted the manifold. Also we finished bolting in the harness bar and went to clock the turbo, than realizing the waste gate actuator bracket is not accurate for this setup. Justin says we will have to do some customizing on the bracket. Now on to the crappy side, Yesterday we went over to the dakota. For a wopping under 50k it is in my eyes awful shape and a pain compared to a simple miata. Tuesday we have to finish pulling the motor, than push the truck out to pull in the other truck he bought for us to pull that motor and put back in the first truck.YAY! hopefully it can go smoother and we can get it back together so we can get back to the miata.

Well after a week of that dakota its all squared away. My only advice to anyone on this site, dont by one they arent special. So last night we got back over to the car, we didnt spend too much time at it. I installed the new radiator and as Justin put in the turbo we realized the lower hose for cooling has to be shortened per flyin miatas instructions. Also got the gauges mostly installed just need an adapter for the boost. Couple things we have to pick up include; bango bolts(fm probably sells them with turbo(so not included)) thread tape for iat and various others, fitting for boost gauge, still need to pick up the straight exhaust pipe. Also we put in the Canton coolant res which to my dislike is not a perfect fit but well enough for most. Here are a few pics from last night

So we got some work in yesterday, Justin worked on making the new wastegate bracket as well as oil lines waterlines and getting the turbo clocked properly. We see per FM's instructions the intake tube and lower coolant hose must be trimmed for better fitment. I slightly wish they had two kits as this one is designed to help people with a/c and powersteering. I managed to get the gauges all wired and finished, minus tapping in the light for the boost. Also got the new rear finish on and got the axles removed and diff unbolted i just still have to persuade it out of the ppf. Its coming along quite nice, i currently am waiting the return of my downpipe, we dropped it off to get the flange cut welded adapter and vband, but from there Justin will be building the rest of the exhaust. Here is some pics of current state.

Not many updates this week, I'm going over today to clean a little on the torsen before i put it in. Also i ordered Brembo blanks and ebc green stuff for the front. Next year will be a full brake overhaul or some point in the summer, but just for now put a little better than oe on it. When we went the other day I was busy working on my brothers accent doing brakes on that, but Justin was able to run the water lines, and feed line as well as heat wrap them both. We still have a bit to do. Drain line, rear end install, exhaust build, mount ecu, intercooler piping and bov install, fluids, harness, turbo shield, brakes( as stated above), set hieght(going higher than previous pics), and hopefully thats all but im sure im missing something of the sort. My hope full deadline is April 24th we have a car meet that day, and for the few hours we get to work on it I still see that as a high possibility.
