Yeah. I'm going to see if the Chechens have one that they've taken out of a car. I already have ABS front hubs that I'm putting in. I need to get ABS axles, the speed sensors, the 01+ abs unit and maybe ABS knuckles. I have a feeling ABS knuckles will make it a shit load easier than trying to file a cast surface flat, then drill and tap.

TNTUBA 08-19-2013 03:59 PM

Yea. You will want to hunt down some ABS front and rear knuckles. ABS axles are tuning into unicorns. I have had to order non ABS axles and change the tone rings out on them.

And seriously make sure you get ALL the hard lines.

Leafy 08-19-2013 04:02 PM

All the axles are turning into unicorns. I'm almost temped to switch to an MSM carrier so I can use MSM axles since they're still being made for some reason.

I hate flaring hard lines.

18psi 09-04-2013 08:47 AM

can you take some good close ups of your oil feed line? specifically where it connects to the vvt feed line? still holding up fine?

Leafy 09-08-2013 09:32 PM

Its like the only oil connection in the car that doesnt leak, I'll try to get a picture this coming weekend.

I just got back from nationals. I came in 18th of 29, and came in a couple spots ahead of a certain supercharged miata owner that gave me a bit of shit in this thread. ;)

I'm processing the videos now and trying to catch up on some emails and get some food. As awesome as last week was the tow out and back blow big dicks and I really just want to sleep in my own bed and eat my own food and not junk now.

Leafy 09-11-2013 08:40 PM

Videos of shit driving are ready.
West on the first day

My only clean run

Paul's

Run 2 missing

Fastest run even carrying the cone, just looks like he had a brain fade

Day 2 on the East

Only clean run again on the last run

Paul

You'll notice that the last 2 cones on course go MIA between my first run and Paul's 2nd run. They were missing the rest of the day.

Leafy 09-16-2013 01:42 PM

Made a few big break through this weekend, pictures to come. I managed to win SSM yesterday locally, beating the Panda (with jenna driving). The course was pretty sweet, almost all made from nationals elements but put on a runway, felt like the east course. I didnt take data or video because I left my phone charger at home.

I fixed the rub issues, had to add 1/2" more bump stop to the xidas and trimmed some shit. I'll post pictures of it later. I also found out that the company that did my corner weighting removed all my rake. I turned the rear collars up 6 turns, should have helped with my understeer. I cant comment on that since I was running 40 run A6s in the and spent ass 3 year old R6s that were on the front of a 350hp CRX. I tried them on either end, with the Rs on the back it was definitely faster but WAY harder to drive. I have a pair of like 80-100 run A6s that I'm going to put on the wheels with the R6s now that I know I wont cord the fronts anymore.

I also noticed the car was driving kind of shitty when I took it to fill the gas up before putting it on the trailer. It was running in the 13's afr in boost at some points and spiking lean on transients. I found some weird parts in the fuel map that I dont remember being there and turned up the transients to where I swear I had them. I wonder if this ecu has the same issue as the haltech sport2000 where it just randomly changes shit in the tune for no reason. But it felt like I picked up another 30hp over what the car was running like at Nats, which is good I guess.

Just a wee bit of trimming, because street mod.

Extra bump stop bits and an extra washer. Why the extra washer? I noticed the bump was bending around the rubber bushing significantly after bump stop contact was made without significant force on the wheel, adding the washer let me basically run less bump stop length while having the same bump stop bind point.

I dont like how little travel I have to the bump stops now. This is with the spindle compressed until the car lifted off the jack stands, so its about half an inch more than ride height. The bump stops on the car are so soft they can easily compress over an inch before they really start to have an effect. It didnt feel detrimental while racing, probably because the bump stop rate is so gradual I had no idea when I was hitting them during turning or bumps. It might be noticeable on the street. I'm considering raising the ride height another 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch but I'm already 3/8ths of an inch higher than emillio runs these shocks.

Nice job on the win. More to come?

Leafy 09-17-2013 10:24 AM

Thanks. I have the last points event the 29th of this month. There's only 2 ways I dont win the season championship. The guy with the lotus comes in first and I finish anywhere (Pretty much only happens if my can AND the Panda breaks). Or Jenna wins and I finish more than 1 position behind the guy in the lotus (pretty much only happens if my car breaks). Only the first 3 runs of the next even count as the points event. After that the class champions and top 10 in pax have to try to match their fastest run from the morning 3 runs in the 3 runs in the afternoon. Half the points are from being the fastest pax driver in the morning and the other half are from being perfectly consistent across the last 3 runs while matching the morning fast time.

I'm also doing a miata event the 28th, and the fun team challenge event the 12th of October (I think). I'm not sure how much development work I'm going to do between then and now. I think at the very least I'll be welding the cam reluctor ring to the cam since it seems to have shifted, then re-calibrate the VVT position.

My list of things to do over the winter in order of importance (* indicates certainty)
*Pull engine and seal all the leaks
NB sub frame swap and add power steering
01+ ABS
*Re-do front aero (its slowly breaking and a pain in the ass to put on now that its breaking)
*Measure all control arms, spindles and chassis pickup points to work on designing tubular arms
Make tubular control arms
Make awesome sauce crank case venting
fix rocker rot
Flares and fenders
*New turbo inlet and air box
Gut hood
*Redo fuel pump/pickup (I'm thinking the wally 400e85 is the way to go with the wally 255 install kit)
Lightweight headlights

Well I've got a line on an NB subframe conversion and an 01+ abs conversion for... well less than I was prepared to pay for just the ABS.

And now for pictures of the latest race.

As someone who runs a Haltech Platinum Sport and got to learn a bit more about it than originally planned, i don't even see how this is possible.

Like for real, formula car was running great for months (and by that I mean it was run twice a few months apart, lol), all of a sudden wont start. Open up the tune on the computer, its one that hasnt been on the ecu for like a year which only 2 people have and one is me and the other's in Ohio. Or when half the VE map will offset itself like 10 in either direction.

That's pretty batty when the ECU doesn't have the capability to change anything permanently without human interaction.

That said, it's not without its shortcomings, but stability issues are certainly not something i've encountered.

I'm not sure if its worse than the blacklist. All of a suddenly breaks connection with laptop, figure the laptop just needs a restart, again, for the 2nd time this hour of playing with the ecu, because haltech. Wont connect, try all the usb ports, nada. Get another laptop, its fine. Whatever. Try the next day, nothing, other laptops connect fine. Swap ecu's (because we have a spare) laptop works fine with that one. dafaq?

concealer404 09-19-2013 04:46 PM

You know... i remember you mentioning that, and asked the dealer about all that before i went ahead and purchased two of them....

And he said that he's never seen anything like that. He's done dozens and dozens of installs and tuning (You know Carter Thompson, right?) and none of that.

 Shit's weird.

Either way, how's that EMS4 treating you? :D

Back on topic question: What exactly was going on with your car that you had to do so many modifications to the Xidas?

Besides missing VE its been pretty solid after I took car of that weird password issue and the wiring harness problems.

My tires were my bumpstops. To run the 275s at the same ride heights I was running on street tires and keeping the same amount of travel before first hitting the bump stops I need drop spindles. Right now I'm 1/4 inch higher with the hoosiers on (or 1/8th inch higher with the RS3s on) than I was when I was racing on streets. The hoosiers being taller, wider, and generating more grip contact the shock mount and the chassis next to the shock mount before the bump stop is compressed with the stock bumps. There's plenty of clearance when you first touch the stops but they compress almost an inch before they actually stop movement, and by then I have like a 3/8" interference between the tire and the car. This is zero concern to anyone running tires other than 275 hoosiers or bigger (ie non-dot tires).

concealer404 09-19-2013 04:58 PM

Gotcha, makes sense. I keep forgetting that this car isn't trailered everywhere.

Leafy 09-19-2013 05:00 PM

Well it is trailed to races. I've run 9 days of auto-x and corded 4 hoosiers due to rubbing on the chassis, 2 of them at nationals which were practically brand new. I do enjoy taking it to fill it with gas before driving it on the trailer. Next year it will see more street time when it leaks less fluids.
