Thanks Patrick! I'm good, but appreciate the offer.

The timing/water explains the power you're making over me at the same boost level. My 3" exhaust probably explains my mid-range.

Tom, can you eleborate on your meth/water injection? What % are you using how your mixing or what your buying. I am shooting pure water atm wanting to switch to a mix. Thanks man.

How did you get your elbow to fit with the ISC plugged in? After test fitting mine in the "down" position as in your Miata, I ended up cutting the elbow back to a short flange as it didn't look like the plug would fit at all!

Sure! I'm running a Coolingmist Standard 250psi Trunkmount kit. I started using a 50/50 mix of water & denatured alcohol (which I've ran in my other cars forever) but recently switched to Snow's "Boost Juice" which is a 50/50 water methanol mix. I've been very happy with it and will be running it in my Talon soon too.

Ah yes! I ground down a spot on the elbow and trimmed the ISC plug a bit and all was well.

That makes sense. I'd like to switch to 3" exhaust soon, but have grown to love the nice tone of my 2.5" setup. Since it isn't hurting me too bad I'll probably move it on down the to-do list. At the top of the list is the stock rear end - I've gotta get it out before it leaves me stranded somewhere.

Braineack 04-06-2011 02:31 PM

I bet my exhaust is quiter than yours.

Im in the same boat, dunno how long a 1.6 open diff can last.

Braineack 04-06-2011 02:51 PM

Hello all!

I know I've been quiet since my last update over a year ago, but I've just been driving the heck out of Sunflower and extolling the virtues of a turbocharged Miata to anyone who stands still in front of me long enough. :hustler:

I've told tons of people who take an interest in turboing a Miata to come visit this site, and I sure hope they do. I even printed up some cards to hand out, as most everyone wants to turbo their Miata, they just aren't sure where to start.

Anywho, I'm finally getting around to upgrading the rear end! Also, this update is part of a video series that I'm experimenting with. I just got tired of plain old text/picture updates and wanted a better way to tell the story. Thanks for watching and I've included the other episodes if you'd like to check 'em out.

thank you for removing the bushings the sane, easy, no fire, like-a-boss, method.

sidenote: if that was a non MSM axles you got as a replacment, the part that got stuck in the hub is identical to the part on the new axle, so all you had to do was release the rubber boot, and pull the shaft out of the hub end, them press the new 99+ axle into the hub end thing, regrease, and then reattach the boot.

Thanks Brain! Regarding the bushings, that is just the way I was trained to remove a bushing if you didn't have a press handy. Anything else would be difficult and could damage the housing, I would think.

Regarding the axle, thank you for the pointer, I considered doing this, but was afraid that it would come back to bite me somehow in the future. I'm a worry wart like that I guess.

Braineack 05-22-2012 04:43 PM

That's how i did mine...I had to keep my ABS rings and the axles I got were non-abs. been like 6 years?

the shaft is just held in by a cir-clip, but it's one pita to get them back on since they swivel.

Cool build so far, I liked the story-line video on Sunflower up to the point of the differential; can't wait to see how that ends and what you think of the bushings & gearing. Subscribed. :)

This is an absolutely beautiful build thread. Great work man, I am exceedingly jealous

Midtenn 06-06-2012 01:30 PM

I just replaced my diff bushings, your video was very helpful. Thanks!
