A Very Fabulous Miata

20 Attachment(s)
Well, I don't post here that often, but I'm finally building another Miata again, meaning I'll probably be here a lot more often. So, I've had this little guy for awhile now, and it's been a good daily, but with almost 300k on the clock, it's starting to get a little tired. Decided to build this thing up and shred with it. It's been sitting in my garage not moving for almost a year now, and I've been collecting parts for the same amount of time. Now, I've almost got everything I need, and I should have it together soon.

The car when I first got it about five years ago...decent shape

Repainted it, threw some Stance on and some 6ULs
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1366701516

I've got J Abbott's motor out of his 2011 FD car, and it's pretty awesome; Eagle rods, JE pistons, crank and head work, and all built by the man, Greg, at Millennium motors in Temecula. Abbott had around 400whp in this motor, but I'll be shooting for a nice 300 on e85 I'm thinking.

Picked up a Garrett GTX2860 .64 with a Tial ex housing, and a Tial MSV WG...all Vband!
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1366701516

Pulled the motor, and de-greased the entire bay, transmission, and power-plant frame

Motor's in!

Replaced pretty much everything; bushings, arms, wheel bearings, hubs, knuckles, sway bars, end-links, big brakes, lines, tie rods, ball joints...etc. Been kinda crazy, I almost feel like I'm restoring this car at the same time.

Abe's working on something for me ;)

New Wilwood Rotor coating is rad

Anyways, that's it for now...more to come later.

NICE!!!

You may not get so many good comments on your drift upgrades but hang in there!

Scrappy Jack 04-23-2013 09:12 AM

Some quality parts, it seems.

Is that an FD3S in the background? If so, what engine and how many times has it been replaced?

18psi 04-23-2013 09:24 AM

Yay on the nice engine and turbo parts
Nay on the d0r1fto junk

But the former is actually really cool, so much so that most here will get over the latter :)

If you look on the steering arm on the upright there is a big blob of weld under the powder coat, looks like he lengthened the steering arm.

That engine setup is interesting. Its a 99-00 engine but you're running the NA cas and like a 60-2 crank wheel. I thought you were putting in a NA8 until I saw it in the bay with a flattop.

dieselmiata 04-23-2013 09:45 AM

That's a work of art. I usually hate drift car setups because they are rarely done right. You good sir, are doing it right.

Also, Hard-o Gay for an avatar.

Thanks for pointing that out.

A german TÜV Inspector would probably go mad, if i would modify my steering arm like this. So, sadly, no solution for me.

BTW, very(!) nice build!

If you cleaned it up compared to that one and painted it with undercoating or some thick black paint they likely wouldnt know.

Haha, I know...I've been here long enough to know not to mention the forbidden word. It's actually a car I'm building to just have fun and do all types of driving. I know Abbott's taking a little break right now, but I have confidence he'll be here soon enough building something again. I think his ultimate goal is to kinda do something along these lines to just go drive and have fun.

Yeah, I'll actually be pulling that wheel off and running one of savingtons 12+1 wheels with his AEM setup. It's a 99 head, 97 block...all in a 90 chassis haha.

It's a 94 with a 10' LS3...so it hasn't blown up at all, and hopefully never will haha. It's just an awesome car to cruise around on a nice day; dyno'd 430whp, 440wtq.

18psi 04-23-2013 12:22 PM

O LAWD!!! I am in love with that thing.

Please post more pics.

'10 LS3 swapped? SO....MUCH....WANT

bcrx7 04-23-2013 12:25 PM

So the steering arm modification is for easier parallel parking? hehe

Nice build!

This thread is now about your FD-LS, unless you start a new one or point us to another forum that does not require registration to view.

I remember seeing that car for sale (or one exactly like it) somewhere while I was dreaming and googling "LSx FD". Someday I'll build one as a DD.

I hate you now.

Honestly, I don't really drive it that much anymore now that I live in California. I feel like sketchy people are always eyeing it like they're going to steal it, or someone is going to hit me and I'll be fucked. I never had any of those worries in Oklahoma, and it was an awesome daily driver at that time. Now I've got a Skyactiv 3, which I drive everywhere now, and that takes even more time away from the FD. Not to mention, a few more dollars for the Miata project would be nice haha.

RyanRaduechel 04-24-2013 11:36 PM

I wouldn't be worried about people going to steal it. It's the cops and getting sent to the ref is what I would be worried about. And that's what worries me in my car. Sweet Miata, badass FD. I am so torn, either buy another Miata and do an LS swap or do it to the one I have now. I want turbo on it though!

Ok...so this thing is finally coming together; should be at the fab shop next week for some intercooler piping and a small laundry list of other shit I need done. All I'm waiting on is an EMS4, wire that b up, and dyno time. #alliwannadoisshred. Think I'm gonna paint this one purple too...can't wait to start fucking with body stuff
