Default Wil's 10AE "Blue Waffle" build

So, a few years ago I got a pretty neat BMW wagon and fixed it up and made it all nice, before some jackwagon hit it and crumpled the front. A customer that owned a body shop owed me money, like a LOT of money, so I told him I'd nix his bill if he fixed the wagon. A year later I picked up the car that had been sitting outside for 12 months with zero weatherstripping, prior to hastily having SOME silver paint sprayed on it a few days before I picked it up. I took it to another body shop that also screwed me over, before letting it sit in my garage for a year or two or so. I did some motor work for a friend's shop that does paintwork and Autoflex coatings (like grown-up plasti dip, you can sand it and buff it and ****, and it looks amazing - you can't tell it isn't paint, and it peels!) and as a favor, they cleaned up the wagon and painted it a SUPER dope HOK kandy red faded to black top with a wrapped carbon roof. Not for everyone's taste, but I liked it. I was, however, uneasy about spending even MORE time putting the wagon the rest of the way back together - it still needed the interior reassembled and some cleanup under the hood, along with wiring up the headlights and putting all the weatherstripping back on...to potentially just have it ruined again, like the RSX that I restored and got smashed by a semi truck a week later.

So, I sold the wagon for some cash and an AR-15, then traded the AR for a '99 10th Anniversary Miata (6 speed, LSD rear) that had been sitting in a friend of mine's shed for a couplea years with a locked up motor, and bought a motor and basically a trailer full of parts for a fraction of what I got for the wagon. I then ordered everything I could think of that I needed to start building up the Miata - an Energy suspension master kit, all new brakes, got a used 1.8 and completely rebuilt & resealed except for head gasket/rings/bearings, some ROKKOR brand coilovers, and some other various ****. Since a few of our race cars are 4x100, I had plenty of different wheels floating around to try out.

I picked up the Miata, worked late the last few days, and got the first round of stuff knocked out on it. I also scored a pretty dang awesome personalized plate for it, heh.

Tried to upload all these photos at once and it doesn't seem to want to let me...I would just put them on PhotoBucket, but...well...you guys know how that's gone lately.

Started acquiring turbo parts...changed the wheels...painted the roof black, then painted the whole car Ferrari Tour de France Blue Metallic and took off the tupperware.

I really dig the slightly darker paint...although I'm sure plenty of you guys will hate it

Don't mind the mess in the background, I've been in the process of moving into a new shop over the last 8-9 months or so.

Started on the interior, I'm putting sound deadening throughout the car and installing black carpet...put Xpel clear bra on the entire front of the car and the rear quarters to protect the new paint. I need to get the MSPnP Pro installed so I can get the dash back in...Changed the gauges out for some really neat Ferrari-style ones, too!

And, for those curious about how the cheap-o eBay coilovers handle? As it turns out, pretty freaking awesomely, is how!

Great start, really clean car.
Except for the hideous shock tower bar and those horrid green hoses.

shop dog is not impressed by miata... as another 10ae owner whom has "ruined" his cars in the eyes of all of the miata.net morons... I welcome you to the madhouse.

Looks like a KG works for a NA, but I don't see where they made one for the NB.

It's a "Touge Run" spoiler, procured from eBay.

Got the bracket recommended in another thread for the MS3 and got that mounted up, and put the interior back together. Gonna get it back to drivable and toot around for a few weeks and play with the MS3 before I start putting new manifold and turbo stuff on, I think...haven't yet looked to see how involved (if even at all) it'll be to use a Honda TPS with the new throttle body...
