Default 1993 Spec Miata, SCCA logbook

SOLD SOLD SOLD

1993 Spec Miata #158 with SCCA logbook (tech current until February 2022). Clean title in hand, and it's actually tagged for street driving (not that you'd want to). I did track days with this car for a year, then it got me through SCCA racing school and got me started racing with my full competition license. For anyone looking to get into racing in a cheap, safe, reliable car- this is your car. This car is eligible for SM-SE in SCCA Southeast, a dedicated class for the early 1.6L cars. Many other divisions around the US have a similar class. It should also be eligible for SCCA SM, NASA SM, vintage, endurance, or just about anywhere you can think to race it. The car is competitive and needs nothing- buy it and race it tomorrow.

Chassis
  • Chassis has 223k miles. No rust, never crashed, dead straight (corner weights within a few pounds)
  • Paint is clean and shiny, body panels are straight except for a few small race bumps
  • Suspension bushings are in fine shape
  • Very close to minimum race weight (2275 lb). Scales out around 2280 lb with a 225 lb driver and an empty tank (without passenger seat)
  • R-package front lip spoiler
  • MyLaps X2 race transponder included
Drivetrain and Cooling
  • Motor of unknown provenance, but it looks to have been replaced recently. Squeaky clean, doesn’t leak oil, and has compression over 170psi in all cylinders. It runs great and makes good power. New spark plugs and plug wires
  • 5x Racing adjustable AFM bracket and cone filter intake
  • Advanced Autosports adjustable fuel pressure regulator
  • Koyorad aluminum radiator. All coolant hoses replaced in the last year
  • Mazdaspeed Limited Slip Differential. This is the fastest rear end you can put in an early SM; light weight, low rotating mass, clutch-type LSD action. Comes with spare 1.6L viscous LSD.
  • Ported exhaust manifold (per the rules in the GCR)
  • Kooks/Ti Speed Spec Miata exhaust with new hangers
Suspension, Brakes, Steering
  • Brand new brakes and rotors all the way around (Hawk DTC-60 front, DTC-30 rear)
  • Parking brake deleted (weight reduction and less drag)
  • Brand new Centric Premium front hubs, repacked with Redline CV-2 grease
  • Bilstein Spec Miata suspension with Eibach sway bars, brand new adjustable end links.
  • Bauer extended lower ball joints
  • De-powered steering rack with welded pinion. 5x Racing steering rack shims.
  • Clutch master cylinder, lines, and slave cylinder replaced last year
  • Brand new Sparco R353PSN suede steering wheel on NRG quick release
  • Kosei K1 wheels, Hoosier SM7.5 tires with 7 heat cycles on them
Safety
  • Well done roll cage; looks to be one of the older MiataCage designs
  • Ultrashield 15” Spec Miata drivers seat with custom mounting bracket to get as low and far back as possible. I’m six feet tall and I fit in the car fine. Schroth Profi 3x2 six point harness, good through 2022
  • Ultrashield 16” Spec Miata passenger seat on custom bracket. Includes out-of-date five point harness.
  • Center net and window net brand new this year
  • Cutoff switch recently replaced and rewired to pass tech
  • Fire extinguisher installed on transmission tunnel
The car was at Atlanta Speedwerks in January 2021 to get it ready to take to SCCA race school. They did a bunch of the work listed above, made sure the car was ready to pass tech, and corner weighted and set up the suspension.

The harmonic balancer should be replaced at some point, as the rubber has separated from the metal pulley and it makes a noise on startup sometimes. The car runs fine and it doesn’t affect performance in any way. The motor mounts could also be replaced in the future. The rear differential has a slow drip, but I replace the fluid every 2-3 races and it’s never missing a noticeable amount of fluid. Otherwise I’m not aware of any maintenance that’s required.

SOLD. Hard to find a logbooked, ready-to-race car at this price. Car is located in Atlanta, GA. More photos available upon request.
