Default (RI) FS: 1997 Turbo Miata

I've decided to sell my 1997 Montego Blue turbo Miata. I purchased the car back in 2012 completely stock, and have built it to be one of the most fun cars that I have ever driven. I am selling it because the opportunity to buy another car that I have always wanted has come up. I bought the car with around 153,000 miles on it. I have the timing belt and waterpump done after purchasing the car. The car is inspected in Rhode Island until July 2018. I am selling the car AS IS, with no guarantee of passing any state inspection.

I have documented my entire build of the car, in detail, on the MiataTurbo forums. PLEASE take the time to read through the thread, as it will most likely answer any question that you have, and has many pictures of the build process.

I built this car to be a reliable, quick, and fun street and casual autocross car. I have driven several events at ADSI, and have put down very competitive times. I have many autocross videos of the car, here is one of the better ones:

Drivetrain

202/192 whp @ 11 psi on a mustang dyno

Stock 1997 motor, with 173,xxx miles

MSPNP2 dyno and street tuned by Matt Miner (Wicked Matt)

Garrett T25 turbo, rebuilt by JDS Performance

Flyin Miata cast manifold

Flyin Miata exhaust outlet

Flyin Miata heatshield

Custom downpipe and intake made by Tom at Wicked Performance Group

Jackson Racing catback exhaust

Flyin Miata FMII front mount intercooler and piping

Hallman manual boost controller

APS VTA blow off valve

Koyo Aluminum radiator

Mishimoto slim fans, wired in parallel

BEGI coolant reroute

RX7 460cc red top injectors

Subaru Sti fuel pump

BEGI EGR block off plate

AEM external MAP sensor

Mazdaspeed comp motor mounts

Stock Miata flywheel

Comp Clutch 6 puck unsprung clutch and pressure plate

2001 Miata NB 5 speed transmission (Stock transmission blew around 165k miles)

Torsen differential

Deleted A/C

Suspension/Wheels/Brakes

Megan EZ street coilovers

Racing Beat 1.25" hollow front sway bar with RB support blocks

949 endlinks

15x8 et25 Enkei 92 wheels

205/50/15 Dunlop DZ102 tires with only about 2,000 miles on them

Stoptech Street brake pads and rotors

Hard Dog double diagonal roll bar with harness bar and foam padding

Interior

NRG wheel with Boss hub

Innovate MTX-L Wideband gauge

Prosport boost gauge

Exterior

KG Works lip spoiler

Smoked front turn signals

Debadged rear panel

Soft top has some stitching that has come undone and a couple small holes that I have repaired with fabric glue. I have not had any issues with the top leaking

The car used to have the typical rocker rust. I purchased replacement rocker panels, front fenders, and rear quarter panels, and had all of the rust cut out of the car, and the new panels welded in place. There are photos of the progress of this in the MiataTurbo thread. The rust repair was well done and the rocker panels are solid, however, the respray on the car is not the best. A color correction detail may work well, but I never got around to doing it. The driver's side quarter panel will need to be repaired. I believe some filler was put over the quarter, and it was painted before the filler dried completely. This has resulted in the paint cracking. I have included a photo of the quarter panel.

The cons

Driver side quarter needs paint

The unsprung 6 puck clutch lets out a squeal when getting started in first gear. This is the result of a rigid clutch and has no ill effects on the car. I can include a stage 2 sprung clutch disc if this is an issue

At one point, I noticed a crank pulley wobble. After digging into it, I found that the woodruff key had broken in 2. The crank nose had very very minimal keyway damage. To be safe, I replaced the key and added some loctite (if you are not familiar, please research Miata loctite fix). The crank has been rock solid ever since. Again, this is documented in my thread.

There are many other smaller items that I have replaced/upgraded on this car. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer. Again, please take the time to read through the MiataTurbo thread.

Asking $5500, OBO
