Default Turbofan's 1999 10AE, built VVT, Absurdflow, MS3x, BoostBuddy, etc

BUMP FOR NEW PRICE. $10k. NO HARDTOP. Soft top in good shape, see pics posted in this thread

I had an MSM which was totaled, and I bought a 10AE shell as a donor. The only thing 10AE on it is the shell. Moved over a bunch of things from the MSM (interior, soft top) and changed a bunch of stuff along the way.

Engine: Originally MSM block, rebuilt with Wiseco pistons and forged rods by the previous owner about 15k miles ago. 9:1 compression, ACL bearings and bolts.
-Boundary oil pump gears
-Supermiata damper
-VVT head with '99 head gasket and reroute, '99 VICS intake manifold
-Skunk2 throttle body
-Singular hood louvers
-Supermiata Crossflow radiator
-MS3x with sequential fuel and spark
-LS coils on Singular mount
-ID1000 injectors
-Return fuel conversion for better fueling control
-Walbro 255 fuel pump
-Red wrinkle powder coated VVT valve cover so it looks like the MSM cover
-All emissions equipment has been removed. This will not pass smog. You'd have to add all the charcoal canisters and such back in, PITA.
-Absurdflow PS/AC-compatible complete VBAND turbo kit including 3" exhaust with the suitcase MT.net-approved Magnaflow muffler. This thing is quiet (relatively) but really has a great sound under power.
-GT2871R turbo, tial stainless turbine housing, external wastegate
-Precision 350hp intercooler
-Dynoed at 230whp at 8 psi, 300 whp at 15 psi.

Drivetrain:
-MSM 6-speed (90k miles)
-3.63 R&P in the MSM pumpkin, so has the stronger MSM axles. This cost a LOT of money to do.
-Miataroadster shifter w/tall, angled lever. So, so lovely.
-Supermiata Sport clutch with forged steel flywheel
-Beatrush PPF brace

Suspension/brakes
-Xida Gen2 w/billet coaxial mounts, 700/400 springs w/helpers
-big RB hollow front bar, MSM rear bar, on Supermiata adjustable end links
-Full poly bushings everywhere with SADFab bronze bearing retrofit kit. HUGE improvement over regular poly. Front LCA bushing is offset delrin for extra camber
-TSE 2.5" brake ducts
-Supermiata Wilwood BBK in front (dynalite calipers) with SS lines all around. Sport rear brakes. Currently running DTC60 front and DTC30 rear brakes. Wilwood prop valve.
-949Racing Gen 4 15x9 6UL in the discontinued Nickel finish. Comes with one extra wheel new in box just in case. **I would like to keep these, but willing to let them go if required**
-245/40-15 Hankook RS4's with lots of life left
-FM stainless steel frame rails

Interior
-No PS/AC
-MSM dash, door panels, carpet, pedals, door sills, shift ****, center console
-Sparco Fighter driver seat, very comfortable, movable lumbar pads
-Sparco Sprint passenger seat on sliders
-Momo suede wheel on works bell QR and hub. Very nice setup.
-Hard Dog double diagonal beefy hardtop compatible rollbar
-Turbo kitty tachometer with kitty needle toppers. This is very important.
-Boost buddy. Also important.

I'm sure I'm forgetting stufff. The exterior is basically stock 10AE aside from NB2 taillights. Comes with matching hardtop w/headliner and defrost.

Engine runs great and doesn't use oil, but the last leakdown test I performed showed two cylinders at 8% - getting to be on the high side. Still runs excellent, but will need a refresh eventually. It doesn't overpressurize the crank or pop the dipstick or anything even at high boost.

At the moment I'd be looking for $12,500. If you would like to make an offer, feel free. For now, that's my number.

Will add pics later, or go see my build thread. The one where the *** rebuilds all the salvage miatas.

Well, the good news is I'm probably not selling the Miata.

The bad news it, it's because the S2000 is probably sold.

This makes me simultaneously happy and sad, fulfilled and empty.

A couple reasons.
1. The Miata is not easily replaceable. The S2000 is relatively easily replaced.
2. I still owe money on the S2000, so selling it reduces my monthly expenditures.
3. Selling the S2000, the equity goes to paying off debt -- don't really have anything else I want to do to the Miata. If I sell the Miata, then the S2000 will need a roll bar and brakes and tires and suspension at minimum, reducing the benefit of selling it.
4. I already had a buyer for the S2000 -- my cousin. Very easy, and I can still drive the car once in a while.
5. I will eventually inherit my dad's MSM which fills the same role as the S2000. Not really full replacement but has AC and stock seats and stereo etc.

That being said, if someone came along and offered me $15k for this car, I'd probably still take it.

Bump. Open to selling this whole package if someone is interested. Updated original post with more parts I had forgotten.

Man, this feels familiar. What was the motivation to sell, get into a dedicated NA track car?

Really nice build.

When I originally posted this ad in Feb 2018 I was just broke haha. I needed to sell a car, and it was between the S2000 and the Miata.

My cousin bought the S2000, so I kept the Miata. but now it's more a matter of paying down some debt.

But I really don't want to sell it. Not quite sure what I want to do. For now, if someone is willing to pay my $14k asking price then I'll sell it. If not, well, we will see.

Are you going to sell yours, Ryan?

Really on the fence. Hard to justify when you spend all that time and money, 8 years of building what's suppose to be a semi "finished" car and now I sell it? Just dont want to regret it. Cayman is very good, money from the Miata would make it even better.

Aw. I liked your post better when it had pictures in it.

This thread is now about ryan building a racecar.

In all seriousness though, do you have any interest in actual racing? Your cars just seem to have quite a lot of overlap. I'd imagine neither are used for family trips, and if you and Megan are going someplace you'll probably take the Panamera over the Cayman. But the Cayman is so entertaining at autox. Very little risk there too.

I'd say if you're doing a lot of track days where there's more risk, or if you're interested in actual w2w racing, keep the Miata. Otherwise, it makes little sense to keep it aside from emotional attachment.

As for my car, my Thought of the Day® is to finally button up some of the loose ends. Things like installing the prop valve and getting brake bias finally dialed in. Installing a steering column cover and making it so the turn signals aren't weird (they don't self cancel). Get it properly corner weighted and aligned rather than just "good enough." Pull the turbo and put new inconel CHRA bolts in, fix a rattle or two, and reinstall. Then sticker it up as a shop car, run a few more track days this summer. I want to do Chuckwalla in it again, and buttonwillow. Maybe Willow Springs too. Then do demo rides in it at laguna as a shop car. I mean, this car is a 949Racing/Supermiata catalog car. My satisfaction with the whole package is one of the big reasons why I wanted to come work here - it's easy to promote a product when you believe in it and have direct personal experience with it. It's the only other FI car in the shop besides Vegas, and with a few little things it's really an excellent example of the dual-duty breed which is what most of our customers do.

Then, after the last Miatas @ laguna event, part it out and build a racecar. haha

Finally get it dialed.
Sell it.
Racecar.

This is a good plan.

I just want it to go to someone legit, not much I can ask for. Emotional attachment > money.
