Great news, the USA can continue borrowing money forever, keep on spending and increasing taxes.

Braineack 10-16-2013 04:41 PM

why even collect taxes if we can just print/borrow?

Inflation. Taxes can serve to impact aggregate demand.

All else being equal, with no taxes, demand would be higher and that would lead to much higher inflation.

With a fiat currency supporting fractional reserve banking, there is of course more debt in the world than money.

This will happen to every nation at some point, basically. Its unsustainable.

Whatever, gold is real money, anything else is just credit.

Most definitely... In the end, the only things of value are silver, gold, diamonds, guns, and gas.

leboeuf 10-16-2013 07:15 PM

Hahaha you guys crack me up.
silver=mostly useless
gold=mostly useless
diamonds=mostly useless
guns=useful
gas=useful

"Money" is simply a measure of a culture's ability to produce goods and services (which is why gdp is tossed around so much). Services could range from tech support to warlord domination. Goods could range from timber to nuclear bombs.

Silver and gold are market playthings.

nitrodann 10-16-2013 07:16 PM

Just tools, consumables and things that cannot be created.

Spot on.

Eventually there will be a worldwide financial collapse, and we will do it all over again.

My faith in humans to learn... is low. The average person is such a massive sheep who dont give no fucks excep' mah Tee Vee.

Right they are, unfortunately if I make spades, and you grow food, but you dont need a new spade I must either trade something of no intrinsic value but something which cannot be created, or find middle ground.

So we need things with no intrinsic value, the only ones we actually have are things that cannot be created.

ie gold, silver, diamonds.

They are playthings, but they themselves are useful tools.

Cash is just an IOU. But humans in general will never understand this because they feel no need to and the few who do understand and want to get super rich will keep it that way.

As I posted recently, people still think that working hard gets you a job.
Convincing the guy who can give a job that his best bet is giving you the job is what gets you a job.

Such simple ideas but the average person is at full mental capacity breathing and remembering to sleep.

Yep....
Old fashioned Barter system would be the way to go.
You trade goods/services for things you need.... you dont contribute, you dont get shit, and you die.... simple as that....
Fixes multiple problems, INCLUDING but not limited to, the Welfare/Food stamp system

Well, the shutdown has ended. We can now go back to bitching about it running.

I can't help but cringe every time someone from congress makes a speech now about how hard they worked together with one another to overcome this most recent challenge.

You can't brag about fixing something you created. It's already done so much damage, and for nothing.

I doubt anything will change, but I really hope the few good people in Washington are able to get rid of some stupidity in the name of this most recent embarrassment.

what damage did it cause?

Tekel 10-17-2013 08:31 AM

A rant I went on last night:

I still don't understand how our government can continue to operate with an ongoing expense in the red and continually add expenses. We can not go on as a first world county borrowing and stealing like this. The party is coming to an end and it is going to be in the form of a horrible crash. Yes, everyone deserves food, yes everyone deserves water, yes everyone deserves to be healthy. The government is not the world police, they are not the soup kitchen, they are not St. Mary's hospital. If they don't realize this, we will not be the country we are today within my lifetime.

The government is a non-profit organization, if they don't bring in enough to break even, they go out of business or those funding the organization demand a change. We are the ones funding this non-profit and this "change" that is running it is way worse than more of the same. It is a dragon in wolfs clothing.

In the tune of billions of dollars spent and lost in private sector income?
