im trying to fiogure out why a concealed carry license would cause law abiding citizens to run around pointing guns at police.

Liberal scare tactics never make any real sense....I can't wait until crime and gun violence in Chicago starts to decline.

McCarthy is a moron, plain and simple.

For a great cop driven blog from Chicago, Second City Cop. Written by a cop, commented on by cops (and others).

This is not a defense of the deputy, but a few things you can do to help reduce the probability of ending up where the fat man did:

1. Do not get out of your vehicle during a traffic stop unless instructed. This (A) makes cops nervous and (B) made it much more likely to expose his firearm.

2. Do not leave the vehicle running during a traffic stop. This makes the cop nervous because they think you may decide to run.

3. Do not carry outside the waistband if you are a fat slob with a huge beer gut and a passing breeze is going to blow your cover shirt away from your firearm.

As a refresher, when a cop flips his blue lights on you...
  • Activate your turn signal to indicate you recognize the blue lights and are preparing to pull over.
  • Find a reasonably safe but close spot to pull over.
  • Pull far enough off the shoulder to give the cop room to walk to your driver side door without putting him in the flow of traffic.
  • Roll down your windows, turn off your car, turn off your radio if it plays with the ignition powered on.
  • Lift your sunglasses off your face and on to your head. Do not take them off and put them in a case, an overhead storage bin, or toss them on the passenger seat.
  • Put both hands on the steering wheel (think: 10 and 2).
  • Wait for the cop to address you and keep your answers short and use "yes, sir" and "no, sir."

Something that I have never understood is using an OWB holster when trying to CC. I have a very nice IWB holster and it works amazingly. If you don't want to be hassled like this then an IWB holster would make something like this to be almost impossible to happen.

Concealed means concealed. It is illegal if it in sight in most states. And apparently it is quite dangerous.

Full_Tilt_Boogie 09-08-2013 12:00 PM

I think IWB is the way to do it. Im not going to regularly carry until I have one. The problem is that none of my pistols are any good to carry, so I need to figure that out first.

Congratulations to Colorado. 2 anti-gun politicians recalled in popular votes. Standard political grand-standing aside, it's a pretty big deal.

We saw the a OC Sheriff car pull up so we all took out our camera-phones right away, anticipating trouble. This officer gets out of his car, waves to us, and walks right over. He shakes all of our hands, introduces himself, and states his purpose for walking over to us. (Somebody got scared and called).

He never asked us to disarm, never threatened us, never asked for our names or identification. I think I can speak for everyone in the group that it was an honor to meet this man. Thisis what we need to see from police officers everywhere!

Gov. Jerry Brown Vetoes Calif. Bill Banning Semi-Automatic Rifles | NBC Bay Area

California Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed a bill Friday that would have imposed the nation's toughest restrictions on gun ownership, saying it was too far-reaching.

The legislation would have banned future sales of most semi-automatic rifles that accept detachable magazines, part of a firearms package approved by state lawmakers in response to mass shootings in other states.

It was lawmakers' latest attempt to close loopholes that have allowed manufacturers to work around previous assault weapon bans. Gun rights groups had threatened to sue if the semi-automatic weapons ban became law.

"I don't believe that this bill's blanket ban on semi-automatic rifles would reduce criminal activity or enhance public safety enough to warrant this infringement on gun owners' rights," the Democratic governor wrote in his veto message.

He also noted that California already has some of the nation's strictest gun and ammunition laws.

Democratic Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, who proposed the measure, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The bill sought to ban the sale of assault rifles, but Brown objected that it also would have applied to low-capacity weapons commonly used for hunting, firearms training and target shooting, and some historical and collectible firearms. Brown also didn't want thousands of legal gun owners to have to register their existing weapons as assault rifles and be blocked from selling or transferring the weapons.

The governor's actions were a mixed bag for both gun rights groups and those seeking greater restrictions.

He signed a measure from Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, which bans kits that allow people to turn regular ammunition magazines into high-capacity magazines, as well as two other pieces of legislation that restrict the ability of mentally ill people to possess firearms.

Brown approved a measure making California the first state to impose a statewide ban on lead bullets for all types of hunting. Hunting with lead bullets already is prohibited in eight counties with endangered California condors. About two dozen states also have partial bans, most in sensitive wildlife refuges.

But he vetoed other bills including measures giving several San Francisco-area communities special authority to regulate weapons and gun shows, as well as several other bills he said went too far to restrict the sale or possession of certain types of handguns or shotguns.

Some of the new laws could trigger legal challenges.

Gun owners' rights groups have said they also could consider mounting recall campaigns or election-year challenges against Democratic lawmakers who voted for the gun bills. Final votes on the legislation occurred last month, just as two Colorado state lawmakers were recalled for supporting tougher gun laws in that state.

Edward Yealey was arrested on 10/8/2013 while standing outside of his place of employment. Initially the stop was for open carry, but when that did not work, Sergeant Kevin Bernard decided to charge Edward with "Carrying a bladed instrument on the Highway" and confiscate his pistol for "investigation" and try to revoke his carry permit.

North Carolina Woman Arrested For Unloaded Open Carry | Christopher Cantwell

Police arrived on the scene as she was on her way home. They saw the weapon, called for backup, and then surrounded Tabytha with their guns drawn. “They were screaming ‘PUT THE FUCKING GUN DOWN!‘”, “There were 7 cops cars” Tabytha told me in our telephone interview, which lasted a little over half an hour. Tabytha said she put the weapon down immediately, and told her dog to go home.

“They told me, technically, you didn’t do anything illegal, but because they got a flood of phone calls in a matter of two minutes that they had to arrest me for something

Pretty much spot on. That cop did so much wrong I don't know where to start. I understand him getting edgy around armed civilians, but he had no regard for his personal safety if he was in fact feeling threatened. He left armed fat guy unattended is biggy #1. Never turn your back or leave armed people unattended. Especially if you think them to be a threat.
