Really, oil came to mind first? Not that it's retarded?

Was pointing towards reasons the Federal Government would work to prevent it, not the reasons we couldn't pull it off.

From Wiki:

As of 2010, Texas had a gross state product (GSP) of $1.207 trillion, the second highest in the U.S. Its GSP is comparable to the GDP of India or Canada, which are the world's 12th- and 11th-largest economies, respectively. Texas' economy is the fourth-largest of any country subdivision globally, behind England (as part of the UK), California, and Tokyo Prefecture.

It is 10% larger than France and almost twice as large as Germany or Japan.

In 2010, Site Selection Magazine ranked Texas as the most business-friendly state in the nation, in part because of the state's three-billion-dollar Texas Enterprise Fund. Texas has the joint-highest number of Fortune 500 company headquarters in the United States, along with California.

Texans' state and local tax burdens rank among the lowest in the nation. Texas is one of seven states that lack a state income tax. Texas is a "tax donor state"; in 2005, for every dollar Texans paid to the federal government in federal income taxes, the state received approximately $0.94 in benefits.

In 2010, there were 346,000 millionaires in Texas, constituting the second-largest population of millionaires in the nation.

Texas has the most farms and the highest acreage in the United States. Texas leads the nation in livestock production. Cattle is the state's most valuable agricultural product, and the state leads nationally in production of sheep and goat products. Texas leads the nation in production of cotton. The state grows significant amounts of cereal crops and produce. Texas has a large commercial fishing industry. With mineral resources, Texas leads in creating cement, crushed stone, lime, salt, sand and gravel.

Texas has known petroleum deposits which make up approximately one-fourth of the known U.S. reserves. The Baytown Refinery in the Houston area is the largest refinery in America.

Texas also leads in natural gas production, producing one-fourth of the nation's supply.

The state is a leader in renewable energy sources; it produces the most wind power in the nation.

Face it, Texas doesn't need the US like the US needs Texas. If they seceded, I would move there.

Fuck them. Give them an island somewhere and let all of those mouth breathing, hillbilly teeth having racist rednecks have their own land and hopefully they will all kill each other out of paranoia and because someone didn't ask permission to sleep with their sister who is also their lover...

 ...no. All the more reason for me to say so, I'm neck deep is retardation around here. The mustache is long gone for the record. Me and high maintenance hair is not a good mix.

I hate to tell you and destroy your faith in humanity, but there is plenty of retardation everywhere. I've spent time in most of the states during my life and I can say that there are retards and intellectuals everywhere. What is important is attitude. And attitudes of condescension toward others are prevalent in the northeast and west coast. Looking down upon those in flyover country is not just something they do from airplanes. Do not perpetuate the myth.
But the people on this forum are typically above average in acuity and they can all, no matter where they live, attest to the intellectual depravity of the proletariat in their corner of the world.

People from the west coast are condescending? You poor, backwards Floridians just don't understand how the world works.

Who came up with the idea for that dumbass site again?

Opti 11-17-2012 10:31 PM

I wonder how many petitions on that site have actually led to something happening. I bet it's close to zero

Well, since roughly zero states have seceded in the last 145 or so years, I'd be willing to give you that one.

Opti 11-19-2012 11:41 PM

Well they arent all about seceding, some are about the post office or obamacare. They have a response page, but I failed to check any responses assuming they all read similar to this.

"We appreciate your concern and will take your opinion into consideration as we...... vague statements that do not directly address the subject...some more vague stuff to make the reader forget what the hell they were reading.....blah blah blah."

You know similar normal political speak.

FYI, the Texas Secession petition seems to have stagnated around 115K signatures.

thenuge26 11-20-2012 09:10 AM

.44%, sooooo close.

Also that has been the response for all of the petitions. A good idea, but pretty worthless if you don't do anything with them once they are signed.

mgeoffriau 11-20-2012 01:24 PM

I did find a least one petition worthy of signing.
