Not to mention the prosecution having poor judgement in picking the charge(s) they wanted to pursue. "Murder" by definition means Zimmerman was planning, to a degree, to kill. Clearly not the case as there is no indication that Zimmerman ever meant to draw and use his gun (though the fact that he had a gun bring in the speculation element of "did the gun give him a sense of power/protection"?). Even manslaughter would be a tough conviction given the known facts of the situation as it is a "heat of the moment" intent to kill and being the aggressor of the situation resulting in a death. Clearly it takes a certain kind of mentality to want to step up and watch your community for crime and want to protect it. I know I would like to take a stand against the crap currently going on in my neighborhood, but it's not my personality type. That's we are not all police officers. So I don't think it is really fair to label him as someone "looking to be a hero" or going above and beyond what a concerned citizen should be doing to look out for the community....I have been around those kind of people (who do go too far), and sure as hell do not like that attitude. Bottom line- It's a crappy situation. The media distorted the story, racist people sensationalized the story to be race-driven to try to convince others of it (those pulling the race card are the most racist of all....looking at you Sharpton & friends), media portrays a specific look/culture of criminals, and "artists" glorify/promote the hood/thug/criminal "look" to look cool. Now place someone in that culture into a gated neighborhood where that "look" is not part of the routine and where crime has been happening, put him in front of a guy who is adamant about taking a stand against what he sees around him...and don't really be surprised that his mentality is to label it suspicious and start taking action. There is nothing wrong with following or asking someone in your neighborhood what they are doing...that shouldn't be on the table...whoever touched the other person first is the ultimate cause for everything that happened....nothing else. |
