OK, I am thinking of selling the JRSC and going the turbo route.
Q- Starting from scratch, how far will 2k go in a turbo build, and what is recommended?
Looking for about 180rwhp.

Can you build a Megasquirt? If so that will free up alot of money in other places.

Plan on sending BEGI 700-900$ for a downpipe and manifold.
150$ for a used t25.
180$ for a wide band.
250$ for Megasquirt.
100$ for ebay intercooler.
100$ for oil and water lines.
150$ for intercooling piping.
100$-150$ for random other parts.

That is around 2000$ and will give you 180hp easily. You might be able to get better then those pricces if you shop around some.

Let me ask you, the Megasquirt, what is involved in "building" one? I was thinking EMB originally.

 

The cost of the AFPR, EMB and fuel pump won't be too far off the cost of an MS and a set of bigger injectors. I'd give the MS serious thought before going the route of the AFPR/EMB.

 

I just was reading up on the MS section on this forum, and a website that was linked. My best bet, for me, is to buy it already built with the ignition control.

I have a 190lph HP pump already, so I am happy with that. I also have the greentop Supra Injectors sitting on my work bench

 

If you allready have the fuel pump and injectors I would definately go with MS over the emange blue. It will be harder to intially set up but it will be worth it in the end. Read up alot in the MS forum a good bit before you start or else you can easily get in over your head.

 

Only change I'd make is spending the 150 on a new chinacharger T3 over the used T25.... But that's just me.

On ebay you can buy no name t3 turbos for 150-200$. Mark had goodluck with his while other people have had them fail in 5 miles. Either turbo will get you what you want. The t3 will jsut have mroe top end power and spool slightly later.

 

With a decent tune, even a small DSM T25 is still good for about 230rwhp. Step up to an SR20det .80ar and your in the 250rwhp range. 8-10psi at around 3000-3200 and full boost is in the 3500-3800rpm range. And you can get good ones for dirt cheap. Have that stud drilled out, buy rebuild kit for $75 and the ATP compressor outlet adapter, and you're in there for a genuine Garrett product that will outlast your motor for $200. Deals like that are all over the Nissan forums. I regularly see good condition SR20det Garrett T25's in the $150 range.

If you're in love with the power delivery or need the top-end of a T3, but don't have the cash, the Chinachargers are an option... but if you're in the 200rwhp goal area... T25's are hard to beat.

That looks like a gt25. If it is, I was under the impression that you are not able to rebuild a ballbearing turbo.

 

I'm looking at a used kit with a GT2560R that ingested something into the turbine. I've called several places, and they've all said Garret doesn't sell anything less than the whole cartridge, and the one quote I got was $668. I have no idea if that applies to other OEM turbos.

It's not a ballbearing turbo, its just a regular T25.

Give them a call and they will tell you what they have available. They have the manifold and downpipe listed on there site, but it is kinda hard to find on there.

www.atpturbo.com sells just about everything in the way of adapters, fittings, flanges, gaskets, etc... for a DIY turbo build.

Some turbo compressor housings are designed to so that a silicone coupler can simply be used... but some compressor housings are designed to bolt up to stock hard-pieces in an OEM application. To use them on a system other than the OEM they came with, you stick on an adapter that will accept a silicone coupler.

You can see in the first link a compressor housing that is coupler ready... and the second is adapter ready.
