14b on a 1.8 did/do you like it?
well i come from the fwd and awd mazda 1.8 world, i have had many different boost bp set-up over the years, small ihi,,, .42/.48 t3,,, .60/.63 t3,,,t3/t4's,,
i have a few boosted bp cars, but i never ran 14b, i would like to know from guys that ran/or run a 14b on a 1.8 bp how you liked it?
did it pull all the way to 7k?
was it quick spooling on a bp around what rpm did it spool at?
what size of restritor for oil in did you use?
if i do go with a 14b on this new project i will maybe have a few more ?'s for you guys.
i would post this ? up on the awd and fwd mazda forums, but most of those guys run small ihi's or ihi hybrids and in my 5 or so years of boost bp fun i think i only came arcoss 2 or maybe 3 guys that ran 14b's or 16g's.

I know you're looking for bp info, but I run an internal gated big 16g on the 1.6
It's been clipped and ported a bit, but nothing extreme.
it spools fairly quick. I reach full boost (14 lbs)by about 3500 to 3800ish. it would probably be better if I had a better manifold design. it does make useable boost as low as 2k rpm. when driving in anger though, when do you ever see Rs that low though. very little lag when shifting.
it does pull all the way to redline without dropping off.
I didn't need a restrictor on mine, it has two realy small orifaces in the oil inlet. From what I understand though, not all of them are like this.

i never made a post cause i dont have a miata, but like i stated above i have a few boosted bp cars, so the more boosted bp info helps and i like seeing different turbo set-ups,ect,ect .
i make more posts on clubprotege.
im looking to do a bp swap into a 88 323 gtx and was thinking of using 14b on it(for quick spool and a decent punch) just looking for some input on how you liked your 14b.

You said you ran a .60/.63, I am working on my setup with that turbo right now, and will hopefully get that done before summer. Anyway, what was your impression of that turbo? from what Ive heard, the .63 is bigger than it needs to be for our motor, but thats what I am going with.

I've got a 14b on a 1.8 and I love it. Starts spooling just over 2k and is fully spooled (depending on my boost target of the day) by around 3k. Pulls hard to redline when I have the boost control set right. Great turbo for these engines! I don't understand why more people don't use them.

and how was the spoolup? I was roughly figuring full boost by 4k and 10psi by 3500 based on Braineack's 60/48 spool time. He has a 1.6 w/ headwork and I have a 1.8 without so its not apples to apples but should give a rough estimate. The spoolup thread is a sticky in the diy turbo section.

but for some reason lately im really likeing a quicker spooling turbo after building a autocross set-up with a quick spooling ((weak)) small probe ihi turbo.
but the 60/48 will spool quicker than the 60/63 on any car.
i think you will hit 10psi closer to 3.3 to 3.5k on a 60/63 on a 1.8

I think it's a sticky in the DIY section. The graph hasn't been updated in a while, but a bunch of people have posted their numbers. I'm pretty sure there are two 14b's on 1.8s in the list.
