Affordable and tuner friendly wideband

http://www.zeitronix.com/Products/zt2/zt2.htm

This is a Nice wide-band for the price and it's reccommended in modified mag, has anyone here had any expierence with this wideband ?

firestar_3x 08-20-2006 02:32 PM

Don't know a great deal about Wideband so it would be nice if somone could fill me in.

If you change your current O2 sensor for Wideband unless the system is running open loop the factory ECU will need to monitor the O2 sensor, when installing a wideband does the ECU still have connectivity to the Wideband?

RicanmiataRacer 08-20-2006 02:46 PM

You don't replace the factory 02 sensor , You have to buy a bung, make a tap in the exhaust or downpipe, So you are running the wideband in it's own port:bigtu: ,AT least I believe thats how it works

just buy the controller thingy. Fuck making a bung.
and guys on the board have been running the zeitronix for like 2 years :robert:

The Zeitronix, if mounted far enough from the turbo to not overheat, can give you a WBO2 readout and send an artificial signal to the ECU to replace the narrowband.

The Zeitronix narrowband output is not equivalent to a true narrowband output on the upper and lower ends of the scale, and so cannot be used with the Autotune.

i wish i had a better grip on tuning :(
at least with electronics and such....maybe i just have to jump into it

brgracer 08-20-2006 07:31 PM

FWIW, I've seen the Zeitronix and I run the Innovate LC-1. While the LC-1 is cheaper as it's just a WB controller and sensor and it works very well, I must admit that the relatively cheap add-ons for the Zeitronix such as the EGT, boost sensor, and additional input make it very attractive as a complete tuning tool.

If I can get my WB logged with the emanage thru the alpha tool, then I'll be pretty happy with the LC-1, but if I can't I probably would be wishing for the Zeitronix setup b/c currently I have to log the emanage info and lc-1 info separately. Hopefully the alpha tool will fix that and I'll be able to log WB o2 reading with everything else so I can graph it all out together to really be able to pin down the areas where fueling can be fine tuned. YMMV.

firestar_3x 08-21-2006 10:01 AM

Think i'm going LC-1 anyways, need to do some reading using it with a EMU, LC-1 has got price on its side + i prefer the pod dial you can get with the LC-1 no place the stick that HUGE display!

Braineack 08-21-2006 10:07 AM

For $179 shipped you can't go wrong with the LC-1. And since I'll only use it for tuning, I'm not going to bother with the display. If I need one I'll just stare at my laptop like in Fast and the Furious. (Then I'll come to find out I need NOS.)

firestar_3x 08-21-2006 10:08 AM

But don't use too much NOS or inexplicably your passanger footwell will fall off..... :eek5:

I used to have the link to the shop that sold them....I'll see if I can find it.

Braineack 08-21-2006 12:20 PM

I can't seem to find it. However this seller on Ebay is selling it for 189 shipped.

Yeah, It's not bad. I adapted a different map sensor(virtually free). So with the base unit I can still log RPM, MAP, TPS, A/F. I had an issue with my main unit a few months after the warrantee ran out, I sent them mine, and they still replaced it free of charge... However--There is no number to call for tech support--they only work via e-mail

Ok what?? how do you use just a cord with a O2 sensor...Ummm do you connect it to a gauge:eek5: ...Ummm sorry if I sound stupid asking , but Im lost ...Do you weld a bung perferlbly a foot past the downpipe or further, and connect to a a/f gauge??

Braineack 08-21-2006 03:48 PM

Do you have a laptop? The lc-1 comes with everything you need, minus a gauge. If you have a laptop you really dont need a gauge, per say.

The software that the lc-1 comes with allows you to send a signal to any narrowband gauge to see a reading. So you can by a $7 lcd display panel and read your a/f. Or convert a $50 narrowband guage to display accurate readings.

Otherwise the main advantage is datalogging. This way you can do some highway pulls and see your printout on your laptop, then you can tune accordingly. No need to take it to a dyno at this point. Displaying the a/f is a good feature, but how accurate can you stare at your gauges when your making a pull to tune.

You can get the same thing with a really kick ass gauge for $399. you can set your range (10:1-15:1), colors (infinate), they'll even print a custom overlay face for it, and it's ony 3/4" thick so you can mount it anywhere.

Best spot for a bung is right before the cat. Far enough away from the turbo to not cause heat damage to the sensor.

Ok so I can use it with ethier a a/f gauge, or lcd screen? , Im curious about your set-up, how are you running 305cc injecters on your set-up with just a 8:1 fmu?

RicanmiataRacer 08-21-2006 03:59 PM

What kind of lcd panel?

The RX-7 afm can lean out the idle enough for the ecu to handle them. I just got it back up and running and I'm scheduled for an hour of dyno time on Friday so we'll see how it looks.
