Airfilters

Who makes airfilters? I'm looking for a new cone filter, prefer 2" long flange of 2.75"-3" diameter on a 20* or so offset, no more than 4.5" diamater at widest point at filter bottom tapering to 3.5" or so at filter top, and the top cap needs to be open or a velocity stack style. Closest I've found so far is THIS K&N.

It's perfect except the top cap is rubber.
Any suggestions? Who else makes filters?

So far this one is first runner up

I've got that K&N filer in my car. Seems to be working ok. Why is the rubber endcap bad?

If front end is open, hopefully it can scavenge some of the (cooler) ambient air coming in from the headlamp area.

What size is the TD04's intake. mine is 2 inches i am having hard time finding a suitable filter. how do you make 2.75 inches work?

Braineack 05-16-2007 10:44 AM

could you not make this work? It can fit a 2.5" pipe.

So i gues i am stuck using an adapter of the compressor. i wanted something that was 2 inches to pop right onto the turbo itself the dimensions of that filter work, for me except for the flange being 2.5 inches. I dunno wont i need a bigger filter how many CFM per square inch restriction is there on those?

magnamx-5 05-16-2007 11:04 AM

If i go with 2 inch i might as well go with a 9*6 oval ofsett 1.5 inches or so. and make it 4 inches deep. with a outside wall being 7 inches wide. :dunno: lil help

isn't your inlet closer to 2.35"-2.5" or something?

magnamx-5 05-16-2007 11:11 AM

nope 2 inches exactly i used radiator hose to put the AFM assembly to my piping last time but, with the afm gone. The filter i had sits on the high spot and i realy dont want it back by the clutch master agian.

jayc72 05-16-2007 11:18 AM

I think the greddy is 2 1/4.

Weird...my 16g is 2.25" inlet. Both of them, actually.

curly 05-16-2007 12:12 PM

why don't you take a filter with a 2.5" dia flange, and stick a 1" long, 2.25" piece in side, then a 2" piece inside of that. that way you'll reduce 2.5" to 2" without having to make it extra long. a good t-bolt clamp will hold it all together. I did this with my bosch bov to make it fit onto the stock cross over pipe

Braineack 05-16-2007 12:20 PM

not even a pipe...just a 2" 4-ply coupler; that will get you very close to 2.5", the filter can clamp down an top of both.

the filter is only under a bit of vacuum, doesn't need much.

or a 2" to 2.5" 45* silicone coupler...a small piece of 2.5" to clamp on...and that's it.

Ben; I suggest the same to you...that filter I suggest will get you pretty darn close...you'd just need a bit of girth to clamp the filter down on...

Ok upon actual measurement the 2 inch rad hose i was using went on a 2 1/4 inch port. A 2 1/2 unit still wont work though unless i adapter out right.?

sbrian2 05-16-2007 01:15 PM

My setup is:

KNN-RU-3560 - K&N filter from Summit
HED-12016 - 2 1/4" mandrel bend from Summit
2 1/4 silicone coupler

Brian, I likey I likey. But I don't want to deal with clocking the turbo and redoing the charge pipes again at this time. But that's definately the better looking solution.

Brainy, thanks for the filter link. That one will work.
