Zabac 09-06-2007 03:31 PM

why is it so hard to post threads here, i had to try 4 times, it keeps logging me out, is this normal?
dan

cjernigan 09-06-2007 03:34 PM

No that's not normal. I've never had problems.

A DIY MS won't cost you more than $500, by the time you get the other bandaids instead you'll have about that much into it so it sounds like you need to save some more dough cause you can't afford either.

Get the 190lph walbro instead, the 255 isnt worth it and it over power the stock regulator.

Braineack 09-06-2007 03:35 PM

spend $400 now on bipes and a FMU or the same on a diy megasquirt and injectors.

Zabac 09-06-2007 03:41 PM

makes sense...i wanted to go cheap...my mistake...sorry guys...im just so scared of MS...i have no one in my area that has it that i can actually look at the damn thing, lol it would help make me feel more at ease...im one of those that checks everything three times before trying it, but once i do it im fearless, lol...any and all help is appreciated...also, for a 94, which MS is better, ultimate goal is 300, ill be happy with 200 for now and 250 soon with stockk motor...300 is far away, internals and etc. but 200-250 for now and im good, should i buy used MS? or stay away from it?

cjernigan 09-06-2007 03:46 PM

If the used MS is modded for a miata with a harness then go for it. Otherwise you might as well build your own.
MSI V3.0 running 029V would work great for you and it is the same thing everyone else on here is running except those few that run the MSPNP from DIYautotune.com.

Zabac 09-06-2007 03:52 PM

cool, thanks, i think ill just build my own, with the help of this place...
i used to live in anchorage...are you there now?

Braineack 09-06-2007 03:52 PM

I'm about to build a MS for a 94, throw money at me and I'll make yours too.

Zabac 09-06-2007 04:05 PM

sweet, maybe i should get the MS first then, so i have read, to get the car running on it without the mods...this is all i need some input to persuade me
braineack...how much...and will i need to cut my harness? please help

cjernigan 09-06-2007 04:16 PM

I was born and raised in Tok. 320 miles from Anchorage on the AK HWY, if you drove out you drove through Tok.
If I was you i would get MS ASAP and get the car running smoothly. It'll also give you a chance to get familiar with the software and everything else so the project as whole isn't overwhelming.

Braineack 09-06-2007 04:36 PM

around the 300-400 mark depending on what you want extra. and no cutting, only a bit of wiring, like 4 wires worth.

Zabac 09-06-2007 04:45 PM

in that case i am so in, i though there was more wiring to it, i thought i would have to cut my harness, i guess i was missled, sorry guys
this sounds a little more simple than i was affraid of it would be(my grammer sux when i get excited)lol
im in charlotte NC, what do you think will i need? other than controlling the injectors and timing, what else can i control, boost? give me some suggestions, educate me on what else i should get, im not asking to get sold on something, i already am, just what else do i really need, besides the MS, will i need a harness, GM sensors, wideband...what else if anything, just to get to run without mods, so NA, will this allow me to run without the AFM? please say yes...if so, i want it yesterday, for lets say 300 shipped shake on it, lol

If your in the 200-250hp range the .57 trim is overkill. A smaller turbo will be fine. Like the Saab .42c/.48t. 550cc injectors are fine. Fuel rail upgrade isn't needed. Fuel pump isn't needed (as long as yours is ok). 2.5" dp is all u need. 2" hotside 2.5" coldside IC pipes is what I run. This is all assuming your upgrading the injectors in which case you need the MS, EMU, AEM f/ic, or some other stand alone. The guys upgrading their fuel pump are usually the ones trying to cram 250hp worth of fuel thru the stock injectors using an fuel pressure riser. I'm running the stock pump with 550s and an EMS at the moment with no problems. The AME f/ic is pretty capable for sub $400 market and can eliminate the airflow meter. Look into it.

thanks for input, i plan on going with more power later, the low aim was due to not knowing whether i want to go with MS (which i wanted to begin with) but after hearing from a few more people, i cant help but to go with MS, even before turboing, so the 200 is starting to go bye bye and here i find myslef looking at 250+ now...i do have another motor i will be building sometime, doing that for 300+ at later time...so .57 will get pushed eventually...i hear too many people going lean on #4 and blowing up their cars for me to ignore the fuel rail problem, the spec i gave are a given, my only left over dilema was to MS or not to MS...and injector size...which i will use the 550 now because i decided to go with MS...i cant leave short replies

m2cupcar 09-06-2007 05:13 PM

strike the flowmaster - get something with lots of packing and a perf'd straight through pipe. Turbos don't like all those chambers/plates.

cjernigan 09-06-2007 05:15 PM

$300 shipped wouldn't be worth Scott's time. Atleast i know it wouldn't be worth mine. It's worth $400, try and do what he is offering on your own before going lowball.

You don't need a fuel rail, you can just tap the other end and make it a dual feed. You also have to think about the cooling issue with cylinder #4 being the cause of it going more lean than the others.
You'll want a GM IAT, wideband of choice (LC1, AEM), remove the AFM, high impedance injectors will be fine. You can use 550cc injectors from a RX7, they're cheap and are PNP.

Zabac 09-06-2007 05:18 PM

i will run a 3" SS full turbo abck with no cat...thats the plan, homemade offcourse...im worried about it being too loud with a straight through pipe...

cjernigan 09-06-2007 05:22 PM

My car with an open downpipe is quieter than my roommates '91 N/A with a cat and resonator.
I personally wouldn't want to drive without a muffler though. The noise gets to me after a while when cruising.

i was kidding, i do that too much, ill use :) from now on

how difficult is it to tap into it and how would fuel return? (fuel rail)
i was thinking either rx7 or sti injectors (550-540)
and do the IAT WB count as accesories? or does the MS already come prepped for them...i figured that would be something everyone is doing so it would be standard, again, my knowledge about MS is limited to what i read here and on MS.info...sorry :bigtu:
will check engine light be on with AFM gone, or do i need to remove bulb :td:

cjernigan 09-06-2007 05:45 PM

Read the FAQ and everything you can about MS. Your questions are answered.
Aren't STI injectors side feed? If so they won't work.
MS comes prepped for the GM IAT and a WB. Your CEL shouldn't be a problem.
