As for why they cost so much, I don't know about $250, but having them machined is not cheap.

 

But does he make one for the 1.6?

 

Toms rail is $190, from what he said over at M.net. I am in the process of modeling my stock 1.8L rail, and from there I will figure out how I want to tackle the new rail. Glad there is some interest out there. Hopefully I can get another quality part out there for everybody. Either Ben or Magna, send me a PM about that 1.6L rail and I will model it as soon as I get done with the 1.8L.

I know a similar fuel rail to J!mB's could easily be made for less than $100, the extruded fuel rail stock is available from a few places for pretty cheap (Accel is one of them, you can get it from me, Brian, summit, etc). Jim just cut the rail to length, drilled 4 holes, tapped the ends, and mounted some angle stock for mounts. Pretty inexpensive and cheap to make. I was going to go this route when I made my own (I had even ordered all the materials), but I had the time and was bored so I went stainless. Much more time involved in fab work and probably works no better than J!m's style cheap rail but it looks cool to me.



If you want to make something that looks more trick than Jim's (like Vishnu) then great, but it'd be more to make obviously. And if you want to be able to bolt the factory fuel pressure regulator directly to your rail then you'll need a little more machining; I'm not sure if you can bolt the factory regulator to Jim's rail. I think most people here would rather have something that works and is inexpensive than something flashy.

 

You say you could just drill and tap the extruded stock for the injectors. I saw a specialized drillbit for doing just that in one pass. It was a 3 step drill but it was a whopping $130. Is that sort of thing required to seat an injector. Or do you just use a standard machine bit and bore the stock to the size of your injectors and then drill the rest of the way through it?

 

I think those expensive bits are for the lower injector bung, the one that's already in the intake manifold (1.6) or cylinder head (1.8). For the fuel rail most I've seen are drilled straight thru. I do not know the size off the top of my head but I know I used a standard drill bit.

 

That makes sense now that I think about it. The lower insulator would need a seat to press up against. The upper o-ring just needs the tight tolerance hole to seal. Thanks

 

it would be sweet if you included a schrader valve on the rail for hooking up a fuel pressure gauge. not all of us are running a AFPR and need one plumbed in all the time to tune. at least consider it as an option. I think $150 is reasonable since it will likely cost you about $75-80 for materials/labor and I believe 100% mark-up is not ---- rape (FM's 400% however...)

 

Edelbrock makes Honda fuel rails for $125 (at Jegs), FWIW.
