Question anyone ever BEND the dowel pins on their cams???!!!

My belt slipped and so after I set the belt back in place and went for a spin, it was no better. It wont rev past 4500. so I dug a little deeper and when i pulled my cam sprockets, I saw the pins were dented and bent!

has this happened to anyone?

pics soon...

One would think that bending a cam dowel pin would be significant of mechanical interference...

yep bent the dowel on my talon's cam while trying to loosen the bolt that was holding on the sprocket. You'll need a new cam for sure.

except i wasnt tightening or loosening anything. if it happened when i changed the cam belt, would it not have shown its face before the 20000 miles i rode in the meantime? hmmmm ....

here is one of the bent pins. Can someone tell me if there is a notch in these or that's just my talented use of an Ingersoll Rand 2131?

my solution was to weld a tack onto the bent dowel, file it down and voila! Back in business.

That's from a loose cam gear- put a torch on it and pull it out. Then install another one. Lots of machinist supply houses stock dowel pins. I wouldn't rely on weld to hold something that's loaded like a dowel pin.
