Arospeed oil cooler?
Hey there.
I'm looking at mounting an Oil Cooler kit on a miata. I looked at Moss and FM. I also looked at Ebay and AROSPEED came up. What Oil coolers are you guys using and what probelms did u all face? |
I'm running a "tru-cool" cooler -
http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/cooler1.htm Leaks were my biggest issue. The more AN fittings I went with, the fewer the leaks. I still have a tiny leak at the cooler between an NPT and AN adapter fitting. IMO- the fewer junctions the better. |
sweet link.

hmmm....
so in general, will the bolt on kits be a better bet than universal ones? I'm from Singapore so my brake booster is on the opposite side |
I suppose it depends on the parts desired to complete the system and the skill of the installer. Sounds like you're talking about the remote filter mount if you're concerned about the brake booster. I'm not using one- again just more connections. If you figure out where you're going to mount the cooler and a clean route for the lines, then you can just order the lines to length, the cooler and the sandwich plate. That's virtually the same as buying a kit. Perhaps better if you got custom stuff the off-the-shelf kit won't consider.
I'm sure there's Mx5 oil cooler kits for RHD given the installed base. |
that's really clean simple advice that makes lotsa sense.
Thanks for the direction. |
I know a place you can order from in Oklahoma City to get the lines and JIC fittings for like $70.
|
I'm in Singapore, unfortunately.....
|
i might just buy from there thanks m2cupcar

I got my lines from a ebay supplier years back - made to order and they MUCH cheaper than anything from an auto supplier. And they included AN fittings with PT adapters. I'm sure they were an industrial supplier (like hustler mentioned). You just need to find one and make sure to match up your lines with your cooler fittings.

For those of you that go the industrial route AN = JIC = 37* Flare, it all depends on what company you deal with.
|
curiously.
Is there a limit to the number of rows i can have in the oil cooler before i get significant oil pressure loss? |

Thanks for the reply. I'm torn between 3 choices
1.Used Blitz 19 row oil cooler off an airtrek, with custom adaptor (SGD600, without the sandwich plate) 2. An ebay US one, meant for the miata, with oil filter relocation kit, USD 279 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/89-93...spagenameZWD1V 3. Ebay Australia one, generic AU295 http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....m=120137281660 |
Ok...so in the end I got a 13 Row Mocal Oil cooler
With -8AN fittings and SS braided lines. My oil pressure is around 2 at idle, goes up to 3 for most of the throttle, and hits 4 only at high high rpms.... i'm use 10w40 Shell Helix Ultra.... Is the oil pressure normal? |

Is the oil pressure normal? That pressure is higher than mine when hot, I'm running 15w50 M1 synthetic with no cooler. I idle at about 25 psi and peak at about 55-60 psi when full warm. |
Anyone have any experience with this?

First, everyone remember that he is in Singapore, so those readings are probably in BAR, NOT PSI.
