basic turbo setup
i have a 96' that i wanna run at roughly 8psi and nothing more. it sill needs to pass the obd2 emissions test. i have an 02 clamp from flying miata, bipes acu, turbo manifold for a t25 turbo, intercooler, bov, and an aem wide band. Now my main concern is making sure i have enough fuel. What type of fuel management should i purchase?

Megasquirt. You're also going to need injectors.

You'll at the minimum need some sort of piggyback ECu then. You have to have something to tune it with...

You can use use an AFPR to control fuel along with the 320cc injectors and o2 clamp. That along with bipes should let you run close to 8psi and still be obd2 complaint.

now there are different ratio ones like the disc type that are 8:1,10:1,12:1 or the begi one.

As much as I hate to say it, a power card or voodoo box will pass emissions and be easy to install and supply fuel for around 7-8psi depending. Now you'll eventually want more boost and realize the power card/voodoo box sucks and end up with a stand alone and finding someone who's "really good" at emissions testing, like I have. Or maybe you won't and it will suffice. Either way its not a terrible way to get a basic system running.

So does any body run a fmu anymore? Im trying to stay away from running a different or piggyback ecu to get enough fuel.

I would like to use a fmu if somebody could tell me what ratio to use. If that does not work then ill get some sort of ecu.

Honestly I would give Begi a call and talk to them about it and then order theirs. It is probably one of the best on the market and will be worth the change. They will also probably be able to help you set it up to.

Im running a 90 miata with a msd boost box, t25, cartech fmu, 305cc injectors, 190hp fuel pump and rx7 afm. I have it set for 10 psi with no issues other than running overly rich under boost but I just havent had any spare time to tweak the fmu and afm to get a smoother afr. Most guys on here feel its better to go ahead and spend the extra cash for a MS than use fmus and such.
As for your questions I would agree with going with the BEGI fmu for the easier adjustability. |

new? fair market value used? How much does an ms1 and rx7 injectors cost: new? fair market value used? What is the limitation on the former vs the latter? If you answer these questions honestly and correctly, you'll kick yourself in the foot for thinking its "more expensive". I can kinda sorta understand the whole "obd2 compliance" thing, and even then I'd much rather just swap to stock ecu/injectors for the annual or bi-annual test. Takes about an hour working slowly. |
When I see a thread about anything OBDII, I close that tab and move on.

Stock injectors/(stock fuel pressure) run out of fuel at 6psi.
