Default beghi turbo kit vs mazda speed engine swap

hello everyone. i hope this is the right place to post this... my friend is ready to buy the beghi s turbo kit for his 1.6 and i had an idea/question. maybe a stupid one but i wont know unless i ask... hell be spending 2-3k on the setup and install and little misc parts. i can get a mazdaspeed engine w/turbo through my shop for $1900. i was wondering if anyone has done the whole swap and if its fairly easy. he can get a MS with the left over money for tunning. IS this more trouble than its worth? will this route come out to me more expensive all said and done? im just curious cause this way he can get the 1.8 with the turbo for less and make about the same power. and hell have a few bucks to spare. thanks in advance.

I'm sure many will disagree with me, but it sounds like the better idea is, if you have the resources now, to just go ahead and do the motor swap now. Bigger motor, better head and a turbo system that will get you to 200hp all the while getting to know and understand the ins and outs of Megasquirt and tuning.

Sure the BEGi turbo kit is better, but it seems like almost everyone on here goes 1.8 eventually and hopefully the MSM motor has nice low miles.

Bigger motor and better head and turbo AND Megasquirt VS expensive turbo

But if you don't have easy access to the resources needed to do the motor swap, then I'd say the BEGi turbo kit is the more reasonable choice.

I'd do the 1.8 swap, but skip on the MSM motor. The stock turbo system is a complete turd. You can pick up a good condition VVT motor for well under a grand and then save for a better turbo setup down the road. Do the 1.8 swap w/ MS first, learn the working of MS and become comfortable, then turbo until your anus falls out.

Going 1.8 is the best thing because I end up getting baller 1.6 parts at retarded low prices. Do the right thing, go 1.8.
