BEGI Kit Pics / FIC Installation

6 Attachment(s)
Though I'd post some pics of the BEGI kit I just received. It's a Stage 1 without intercooler. Looks to be of nice quality. Will get the FIC wired in and working before starting - just need the harness that cjernigan is going to make.

Wowwww
VERY nice engine bay man.
Props.

Man i love newly ceramic coated pieces. You doing the install this weekend? Are you going to do your own wiring for the FIC or did you get a boomslang?

Will probably start next weekend. Installing springs this weekend. Weren't you going to build a straight through harness that I could wire in to?

Sweet! My kit is on the way. Can't wait till next week. If only I could take a couple of days off!!!

Looks awesome! Post the pics of your install so I can live vicariously.

Doppelgänger 11-01-2007 11:13 AM

i want to know more about that little AEM box you have there. :)

Braineack 11-01-2007 11:15 AM

it's the new AEM F/IC. supposed to be a pretty cool piggyback.

Zabac 11-01-2007 11:51 AM

looks super sexy, congrats

AEM hasn't validated the FIC installation on a 99-00 so there's no wiring diagram or pnp harness for it yet. Except for the resistors, it seems pretty staight forward - this is how I plan to wire it.

Man you are saving yourself so much hassle by getting this stuff off the bat. Having a turbo kit makes the stress of wondering if something is going to break or fall apart very minimal.

What is that plug or something all the way on the right side of the manifold?

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b3...k/P1010095.jpg

How come begi gets the oil from a sandwich plate and not the pressure sender?

---

Congrats on the kit, how much did it cost all together and how long did you wait to receive it?

cjernigan 11-02-2007 11:13 AM

The "plug" is a port for the EGR tube.
I have a feeling they get oil from the sandwich plate instead because they had a few oil sender "Ts" break on customers. Whenever BEGI has things like that happen they change something. Thus the 10mm studs for example.

No, I know that its the EGR tube. I mean all the way on the left edge.

Hmm. Guess ill consider the sandwich plate instead.

Braineack 11-02-2007 11:27 AM

ever removed a oil pressure sender? wouldn't you rather remove the oil filter.

i'm sure the 1/8" bsp fitting wasn't fun either.

Never tried the sender, but I did the oil filter. I see your point.

Whats BSP fitting, its the second time I have heard it mentioned and google images has no pictures of it and I couldnt find it on ATP turbo. Whats it for?

Braineack 11-02-2007 11:32 AM

British Standard Pipe thread.

cjernigan 11-02-2007 11:36 AM

That plug looks like the sprew from the metal casting turned into a EGT probe port. Otherwise I have no idea.

One's the EGR port not sure about the other - maybe Stephanie will chime in.

The kit comes with a T-fitting. I picked up the sandwich plate to ease the installation.

So far I'm up to ~$3250. Took about 3 weeks to receive it. Can't think of anything else I need?

$580 shipped for the FIC and Wideband from Nester - best price I could find.
$2366 shipped for S1 without intercooler and fueling - Sept was free shipping.
$20 sandwich plate new from a board member
$200 used laptop from a board member
$~75 for a harness coming from cjernigan

The fitting all the way on the left is the '99-'00 EGR port. There is no EGT bung on this manifold. :)

And on this car, the oil does come from the pressure sender. Hence, the BNPT fitting and Tee.

Got my harness in so I decided to find a home for the f/ic. Should fit here.
Attachment 215362

Did a trial fit of the patch harness that I'll be tapping into - Thanks cjernigan! You can see the velcro that I'm using to hold the f/ic.
Attachment 215363

Every fits nicely and is out of the way.
Attachment 215364

Started the car, ran for a couple of seconds, got a cel and died. One of the connectors pulled out. There's no locking mechanism on that side of the harness so I taped the connectors together and all is good. Plan to wire in the f/ic this weekend to make sure everything is working before starting the turbo install.

FIC Maps

Plan on using these maps for initial start-up. Boost will be limited to ~6psi, stock injectors, 93 octane. Feedback would be appreciated.

You were right - the plugs weren't fully engaged. They locked in with some additional force. Just got to figure how to get them demated now. Thanks

cjernigan 11-08-2007 06:25 PM

Did you not get my message??????
I use a screwdriver myself. Depress the clip on the one side and use a wide blade screwdriver on the backside. Works a charm.

Got it - hard to do while laying on your back and you can't get both hands on it. I can't imagine trying to solder anything up there.

cjernigan 11-08-2007 06:42 PM

I've spent more time on my back (on the floor of my miata) then carmen electra.
My car came with a mangled ecu harness. The previous owner had chopped it to pieces and mess all kinds of things up. I had to solder much of it back together. Talk about PITA. If you remove the knee plate under the steering wheel you can easily access the ECU connectors to get at them with a screw driver.
I'm also a skinny/lanky individual, tight spaces aren't so bad for me.

Strider 11-13-2007 08:18 PM

Hmm keep us up dated. I'm waiting to hear if that AEM piece works on 99's if so I'm hitting it and have chad build me a harness as well!

I've got it wired in. Car runs rough but no cel. Runs fine with the bypass plug installed so I think the wiring is installed correctly. Need to troubleshoot some more. No problems with chad's harness. Ran the car a while with it installed before wiring in the FIC.

cjernigan 11-14-2007 06:33 PM

Glad to hear it. Looks good. You made the AEM harness pretty long, should tuck up under the knee panel pretty well though.

My experience was the other way around... Carmen Electra spent a whole lot more time on her back in my miata than I did. It was pretty cramped, but we managed.

Zabac 11-14-2007 09:56 PM

Had to send the F/IC back to AEM to get looked at. Would run good if I held the harness just right. Otherwise, was experiencing signal dropout, rough running, cel, etc., whenever I moved the harness around. Runs fine with the bypass plug installed. The bypass plug pins look to be larger that those on the F/IC which I think may have caused the sockets in the harness connector to enlarge.

Didn't like the way the A-pillar pod blocked the view so went with a TDR gauge panel. Slotted the inner shift boot to route the O2 cable through.

Tabs on the back side secure it. Also used some rtv.

Yep exact same thing. Guess they're making some major bank on those.

The trim panel that goes around it all hold it in well too.

You can get one just like it on ebay. Or anplumbing.com sells them. Should be 20mm, pretty sure the civic uses the same thread. Glowshift sells them.

teknikscian 12-17-2007 02:58 PM

20x1.5 is what you need for a sammmmich plate.

keep us updated on the AEM install, i just picked one of those up...

Haven't started yet. Patiently waiting to get my F/IC back from AEM - should be here this Thursday. Still trying to find out what if anything they did in the two weeks they had it. Regardless will be starting the install this weekend with pics to follow.

sv650_ck 12-23-2007 09:12 PM

Just to follow up on the F/IC problems I'm having. AEM looked at the unit and couldn't find anything wrong with it and sent it back along with a new harness. Wired the new harness in and still having the same problem with the engine running rough/dieing when the unit is moved around. Runs fine with the bypass harness installed. Sent AEM some vids to show them.

those videos seem pretty conclusive to me.

emmi 12-25-2007 02:39 PM

did u cut of the spliced sections of the harness?? theres a possibility that they are contacting each other when moving. but its kinda hard to see in the video... im running the same set up as you (like scary identical) but on my 01. f/ic w/ uego and everything is wired up and it runs like stock. (havnt gotten to install the turbo yet)

Mine runs like stock with the bypass harness installed. Doesn't matter how much you shake, twist, etc., it doesn't miss a beat. I was hoping to have the fueling stuff working before installing the turbo but not gonna happen. May have to pick up a used voodoo card to get me going.

emmi 12-25-2007 07:59 PM

okay well i regretted doing this but the problem is in v2 which i recall u do having frm the video...

i just updated mine right now and my car got hella fucked up... im trying right now to downgrade back to V1 damn....

it idled, then it threw a CEL and it started bogging and drastically changing idle...
