That is a saying from a bygone era if you ask me. Like one of the guys on my college Formula SAE team used to always say, there is not a direct correlation between displacement and horsepower. Even when comparing only stock naturally aspirated engines it still holds true. My old 1986 Mustang 5.0 liter V8 engine made about 225 HP stock if IIRC. The 2.0L I-4 Honda S2000 makes more power than that with half the cylinders and less than half of the same displacement, naturally aspirated. A lot of 1 liter motorcycle engines, five times smaller than the 5.0 liter produce 170+ HP stock.
Spare me the torque speech, I know it is coming.
Plus, from what I have read posted by guys who have done it, a 5.0 liter Miata install is much more hassle and expense than a comparable quality turbo install.

For less than $10K I'll bet you could have a totally badass turbo installation that could easily produce more power than a 5.0.
But to each his own. If you want to go that way, go for it.

[QUOTE=ZX-Tex;221767]That is a saying from a bygone era if you ask me. ............
Someone did the transplant into an AC roadster the 60s and called it a Cobra or something.
I was following a 427 round Pocono south last year with my 4 banger (......it was raining a bit).
Now 8 cylinders are for trucks and buses!

if i wanted to make my car as fast as a 5pointslow powered miata i'd throw 300 lbs of sand bags on the front end. then we'd be even.

you guys crack me up. its like i insulted your mothers or something. lol. look at all the collective time and energy you wasted responding to one sentence. and one of you thought i should be banned. lol. you take yerselves too seriously. i bought a miata to have fun with, a toy... get over yerselves. people can argue all day about why something is better then something else. for instance, someone sed something about spending $10k on a turbo'd car and beating the 5.0... well, i've got motorcycles that will run circles around yer cars all day long... who cares? there's always going to be a better way to do something in someone elses opinion. if i made any of you cry, i'm sorry. LOL. i enjoy how much time you waste on someone you act like you want nothing to do with. i'm winning right now, just by wasting the time its taking you to read this. please respond and let me steal more of yer time.

<-- started in hondas, has a boosted honda, has had swapped hondas... has helped swap entirely too many hondas... also has a turbo'd miata.
I think your screen name says a lot about your intelligence though, probably explains the issues you had.
