Bottom mounters: lower rad hose/wp inlet

Bottom mount crew, what are you using for the lower rad hose/water pump inlet/heater core hose return? I saw a pic of Artieparty's which was what I'm looking for, maybe he'll see this... I know Begi has a piece, I'm just wondering if I can use something that I already have? Related, if guys came up with something, what rad hose are you using?

I have thought of reworking the existing mixing mani, just turning it around and plugging the heater core hard line inlet and tapping the mixing mani on the other side. Also, the '97 t-stat housing ALMOST fit on the water pump inlet, there just wasn't much meat on one side where it contacted the inlet.

I cut the heater core hardline and welded a tab to it so that I could bolt it back into the housing. Then just connected the two hardlines with a piece of hose. This was all so I could flip the mixing manifold around 180*. In all honesty its ghetto but works great.

Stock mixing manifold flipped around and shortest flex hose I could find. I'm sure you could find a molded hose that would fit better.

Thanks and thanks. I'll take more responses if anyone has any.

nubbins, eff you for not having heater. Want "roommate?" I have lots of baggage, though.

Check out Artie's. Looks kind of like the tstat housing cover.

A link to my setup.

Doesn’t have a real good pic of the inlet I made it but basically it is an inlet from a 323 GTX. The steel hard line for the heater core return comes in lower and closer to the block so it clears my turbo placement better this also required modifying the hard line mount at the exhaust manifold stud. The inlet for the hose from the radiator was cut off and reoriented forward and down. And I welded on a fitting for the coolant return from the turbo as well.

sweet set up Bbundy!

are you guys just just getting rid of the line that runs (i think) from the mixing mani to the thermostat housing and plugging both those ports? Or is that a bad Idea?

I think the main issue is relocating the lower radiator hose. In the stock location, it sits right where everyone wants to run their intercooler tubes.

i know what they're doing (i'm doing it soon in preparation for bottom mount), I just see that 90 degree little inlet left open on all these. Maybe i'm missing something, or maybe you guys ran the line after taking these photos? I'm struggling to convince myself that the mxing-mani to thermostat line is either useless or very important.

on wayne's it's left open, and levnubbin looks to have turbo return going in there

and i'm talking about on a stock coolant flow layout, no reroute of any kind, 1994

I use that as water feed for my turbo as well. My setup wasn't fully assembled in that picture

This is pretty much what I ended up with. Two AN lines hanging there are going to the turbo, shortened, of course. Blue hose is good for 300*, and is the heater return. I spun the mixing mani around (no PS or AC, ymmv), pulled the hard steel line for heater return out, had it tapped 3/4" NPT, and put on a NPT to AN adapter on it. 90* 5/8" barb to AN fitting stuck on the hose, QED. With this setup, the mixing mani lower rad hose nipple does not contact my 1.125 RB fsb, and it looks like the lower rad hose will just about clear the fsb. I'll take more pics of it installed later in the week and update somewhere.

BTW, I yanked the little inlet tube out of the mixing mani opposite the rad hose nipple and tapped it for 1/8" NPT, then got a 1/8" NPT to -6 AN 90* swivel fitting from Earl's (slick piece). Likewise with the upper rad hose neck that's now blocked off, I pulled the nipple out of that and tapped 1/8" NPT, 1/8" NPT to -6 str8 adapter to -6 AN line. Kewl?

kewl, thanks fellas

*edit: tapping this thing for 3/4npt is proving to be a bitch

I'm a retard. Nice shit, I may do the same. I want to redo all my SS lines.

ok scratch all this complicated stuff, i'm just gonna flip the mixing mani and eliminate the HC hardline (weld the hole shut), gonna tee it into the lower rad hose instead.

edit: here's what thesnowboarder did before going low mount, might work for some, idk:
