Compressor housing quandary

Well, my SR20det compressor housing adapters haven't showed up yet... almost ready to file a Paypal claim, but it got me thinking...

My old 2G DSM compressor housing is .48ar and the new one is .80, ie. imcompatible. Why not just port the old one to go over the new compressor wheel??? That would be awesome as I wouldn't have to modify any of my existing piping. Obviously the tolerances are fairly tight and I wouldn't want to tackle this with my Dremel. I know turbo shops do a lot of machining but couldn't find anybody who advertises this exact service.

Anybody know of a shop who will take my .48ar compressor housing and port it out to .80ar?

Unless I'm mistaken the A/R is not the size of the wheel, it is the ratio of Area/Radius which is the cross-sectional size of the compressor housing inlet divided by the distance from the center of that area to the center of the turbine. The wheel size does affect this but the size of the volute in the housing is also important.
So they would be porting it to the size of the wheel and not just the A/R. Kind of like when people upgrade T25s to a T28 compressor side I suppose.
I don't know anyone that does that machining though.
I'll sell you my compressor outlet if you want, it's the one from ATP, comes with seals, bolts, and vac fitting.

Are the housings made to accept teh same compressor wheel?

If so, then no machining is needed, as the A/R has nothing to do with it.

A test fit is in order. My Saab T25 compressor housing wouldn't fit on my larger Nissan T25 wheel (for obvious reasons).

sam i think the nissan turbo is a t28,GT2560R.

miatamania 02-11-2007 09:14 PM

no...its a Garret T25...I sold it to him.

its an s13 T25...not the BB ones of later S15s

So, what to do?
I know somebody out there in the turbo world has a CNC machine with the correct program already to go for what I want... or something like that. I'm gonna call a couple of the custom places on the internet and see what they recommend.

gpopshop does that shit in addition to selling rebuild kits im pretty sure. Shoot them an email.

You also have the option of having a cast aluminum elbow welded onto the outlet. WOT can get them through ATP. That way you don't have to have the housing machined at all and you maintain all stock components for that turbo. I was going to go that route, but decided the machine work to be far easier.

t28 comparison to t25.just trying to be helpful.

You can contact Guillaume at Blaastperformance too. He'll answer your email and tell you all your options. He might have a housing you're looking for which would be cheaper than the machining probably. If he can do the work, I've got a $50 credit with him which I'd sell for half price too. That offer goes to anyone looking to get something from him. I don'tneed any turbo stuff in the near future.

honestly sam, stop trying to make a frankenstein turbo and just get a nice used SR20 T25 w/ the larger a/r compressor housing. Youll thank me later.

That isn't possible is it? I thought that the 25 in the part number would make it a T28.

Anyways, my roommate has an S15 BB T28 for sale with elbows, I'll see if he is willing to part with just the elbows.
