Default Converted Bipes to MAP output instead of AFM output...

So, for curiosity's sake, and because it just made a little more sense in my mind, I am now running the Bipes ACU off the GM 2-bar MAP sensor that also feeds my boost controller, instead of using the AFM signal. Install notes seen here: http://www.frontiernet.net/~bipesaut...tm#_MAP_sensor

I figured it made more sense to pull timing based on boost in the intake manifold (where the MAP sensor is) than on AFM load that may or may not accurately reflect boost in the manifold. Plus, while cruising at highway speeds with the Bipes connected to the AFM output, the signal was great enough to cause the Bipes to start pulling a little bit of timing, and I certainly didn't want that.

Have only tested the revised setup around town, not on the highway, but it appears to work a touch smoother than before. According to the notes, it doesn't even pull any timing until about 2 PSI of boost, which is probably what makes it feel a little better. I'm currently running a pretty conservative 1 of timing per PSI of boost, but will try 0.8 degrees/PSI soon. That will probably put me on the cusp of knock, though, at 6.4 retard for ~8 PSI. I was pulling 7 before, as 6 would sometimes knock.

Anywho...anyone else tried this? Actually, I bet a lot of you are running EMB or EMU these days, eh?

yeah if i had a bipes, that is the way i would set it up. i did a bit of research into the bipes and as you said, that way seemed to make the most sense.
but then i got the megasquirt instead. so nothing to add really, other than i think you're on the right track

Hey, thanks for the vote of confidence

Do you have the Megasquirt installed and tune yet?

Brian,

I ran my Bipes w/ the Map for the above reasons you listed, It was a night and day difference, in off boost / mid-throttle driveability. Everyone should really consider this.

But your right... now I'm EMB...
The funny thing about the Bipes, I paid 200 for it brand new, used it for a couple of years (maybe 3?) then sold it for 185...
