That's your best bet. The factory paint that my manifold came with took about a year to completely burn off. The DP isn't what I would call shiny anymore, but there's no corrosion of any kind. The top part is slightly discolored... the bottom half is dull-shiny.
Design youself a heat shield or get a turbo-blanket for the heat protection you're looking for. |

I ceramic coated my turbohousing, mostly for asthetic reasons. I went with the uncoated mani and mild steel DP in case Corky decides to make a tubular manifold for the 1.6. If not, I'll just pick up a SS DP if I ever need to replace mine.

Down pipe, SS or mild? Manifold, ceramic coated? Doing both ceramic and SS DP will stretch the budget a little too thin. I'm thinking one or the other. Which would you choose and why? I'm leaning towards ceramic coating the mani and using a mild steel DP. Jay Mark |
Ceramic caoting is cheap i have a local placethat would caot the Manifold DP, and the hotside for 140$. I am sure you can find a place in CA to do the work for you on a reasonable price. It realy helps in cutting down the heat by a whole lot.

I'm leaning towards ceramic coating the mani and using a mild steel DP. Jay I would reverse that: Get the SS pipe and not worry about the ceramic on the manifold. Reason being is that the SS pipe is an improvement over mild for both thermal and longevity benefits. The ceramic on the manifold is only cosmetic. Besides, redish/brownish turbo manifolds are cool. |
