Disco potatoe spool on 1.6
Im in the process of making my track car.
The turbo is 2860RS .86 hotside internally WG with EBC The motor is a stock 1.6L with mild polishing in the exhaust ports. Intercooler will be CX racing with 2.5" piping. Exhaust is full 3" with a muffler and tip Manifold is Absurdflow design. ECU is MSpnp Not sure if this matters but 4.10 torsen rear end Im hoping to start spooling at 3250 and be @ 10 psi around 4250. I checked the spool data but i didnt know what housing size they had. Anyway just wondering what i could get away with. |
Considering you ganked Tim's design I will regretfully confess that yes, this turbo will probably spin-up by 4k on that shitty motor of yours. My tater with the .86AR on the ~1.9 with 3" exhaust hits 11.5psi at 3100rpm now. I also have a proper wastegate though, which you don't, peasant.
|
Its a good design what can I say. I give tim credit because he deserves it.
|
I'm pretty sure you're going to see 10psi much sooner than 4200rpm.
And you spelled potato wrong. Oh and do EWG with a ms2 instead of the pnp so you can use EBC and I bet you spool by 3500. |
The Dan Quayle patato"e" spelling. I remember!

I think 3500rpm on a 1.6 is a stretch. I also seriously doubt an EBC is going to improve spoolage with a proper TiAL wastegate. According to my engineer friend at TiAL the two springs with different free-lengths, different rates, and one preloaded spring is magical.

That t3 may have had small Comp housing, exh wheel and housing.

Here's Jeremy from FM's potato on a 1.6:
http://flyinmiata.com/tech/dyno_runs/Jeremy_potato.pdf he didn't like it. maybe some intake cam advance would help with low end. |
I'll post some data in a week when my T3 install is complete. It's a small .42AR with a 50 trim.

I have a larger turbine than a disco, older less-efficient compressor wheel design of the same exact size, journal bearings, and a .48 A/R housing (.64 T2X Equivalent) and I can see 16-18psi around 3500rpm in 4th gear... This compares my ebay T3 50 trim (blue) to my T3 Super 60 (red) http://www.boostedmiata.com/gallery2...serialNumber=1 |
I've driven a .86 DP on a 1.6 and I didn't like it either.

Im hoping for full spool (10psi) by 4250. If its 4500 or 5k it will be pretty much completely useless for the track (atleast on a 1.6L). With the manifold design (Thank you Turbotim) and uber 3" non restrictive exhaust and some port matching/polishing on the exhaust side im hoping to achieve this.

Did I read that you're going to the Alfa club school? |

Completely useless is pretty extreme. At bremerton I dont ever get below 4500.

You see the Alfa Romeo novice driver school on March 6th? Guess whose gonna be there ;)
I should be there, might just be volunteering though but most likely will be participating. Jacki is going to be participating. She wants to learn better car control for autox and i'm pressuring her into doing track days. My buddy is also trying to pressure his girlfriend into participating as well. The only issue is that we all HATE going to bremerton :( |
Im trying to get Jeff to go with me. Turbo miatas FTMFW. I hope Jason comes down as well. I got a shitload more work to do on the miaters before its track ready.

I'll be there, just not sure what I'll be driving.
