Less than $1500 and he has a fast Miata. That folks is how it is done on a budget. This thread should be stickied or at least referred to when the noobs come in and want to know how to do a cheap setup.
Handgrenade or not, it still has not gone off :) |

Your car looks like it's a blast to drive.

Are you also daily driving this car? What a badass, cost efficient set-up! Definitely got some inspiration from watching those videos, the car sounds sick! Is that the gymkhana at Harris Hill?

I can verify the fact that it is a DD, first-hand observation.
At autocross there have been many people who ask if it's street driven. I get REALLY annoyed then realize that half the time it comes in on a trailer. I sometimes tow the club equipment trailer. If I don't tow the car then I don't get to drive. I daily drive it as long as I don't have to tow or haul very heavy things. That being said, I do tow a little trailer with equipment, have had 10' pieces of steel sticking out the unzipped back window, hauled ten (10) wheels and tires, a generator/welder.... and I think I've had 4-5 80lb bags of Quikrete in the trunk. The number of dirty tools and dirtbags that have been in the passenger seat are too numerous to count. It is sort of driven off road every day. My frame rails are incredibly smashed. I almost high centered it a couple of times(not really proud to admit that). A couple times at autox complete strangers will comment on how dirty the car is. lsc224 told me that I REALLY need to vacuum it out! So, short answer long, it isn't a trailer or garage queen. It is a down and dirty driver. |
Some of the video is older but I just wanted to show that it is still running - with the original churbo.
|
Good to see its still going, this is pretty much what im planning on doing this winter.
Did the ebay manifold have the t3 flange on it? I cant seem to find a tubular manifold with a t3 flange (I probably just fail) and am considering buying one with a t25 flange and cutting it off/ welding on a t3 flange. also.. crappy first posts, but your car is ridiculously awesome... |
He is not kidding. Seriously, DVCN's car is a DD workhorse. It is the polar opposite of a trailered dyno queen.
LOL at that video. Awesome. I did not know they were hosting drift events at Blossom. |

Update:
550cc injectors replaced by 1100cc ones. Gas tank drained, filled with E85 then street tuned for about 20 minutes. I started an E85 thread: https://www.miataturbo.net/engine-performance-56/e85-diary-55798/ The car is still alive with all of the eBay parts and such. Still on the old 96 motor. Autox proof from yesterday: |
Sweet! Wish I had asked for a ride in the teal turd that day. I was so stoked from my morning runs. It was a blast watching you out there.
|
sounds pretty good for a 20min street tune.

Nice vid!

Still alive. Same 220k+ motor, SS Autochrome manifold and eBay churbo remain functional. I still get offended when people ask if it's a trailer queen - maybe a trailer queen means that it's a cross dressing car that tows trailers.
|
Trailer queen means following around the ruler of England making sure her royal dress does not touch the ground. That is the only task really suitable for a Miata.
And yes he really did tow that boat with his car. |
I love this car

Proof of Life.

https://www.miataturbo.net/dynos-tim...17-8mph-68782/ 7400rpms, 18psi, 117.8mph on a stock '96 223k mile motor. |
this is amazing!
low budget build, high mile stock internals, non baller management and a cool video. +1 |
