J to the izunk. My buddy is getting ready to pulls his right now due to multiple cracks in under 3k miles.

Fergus 08-28-2007 11:59 PM

What about this one then.....

I didn't even look at the link. It's shit. The 4 guys cjernigan posted are good, as well as HKS and AVO.

fmowry 08-29-2007 06:47 AM

Do the crappy manifolds all crack at the welds or are there other issues too?

Frank

jwarriner 08-29-2007 09:41 AM

Someone should start a thread called, "Ebay shit sucks" and it should be a sticky.

cjernigan 08-29-2007 09:45 AM

They all crack everywhere, welds and in the middle of the tubing because the tubing is shit.

m2cupcar 08-29-2007 10:58 AM

Still rockin' the SSA with over 1k boosted street miles. I know that's not long, but every time I'm out it's for tuning, which means nothing but boosted runs. I'd like to think that the flex pipe and brace from to the block help. I'm not gonna bitch for $60. I know it won't last forever, but by the time it does fail, I'll probably be ready for adding an external wg.

Markp's failed at the stoopid wg flange on the #4 runner- again a lot of cantilevered weight - wg and dump tube.

What's the tubing issue? thickness? quality of the metal?

Before I installed mine, I looked around and nearly all the SSA manifolds that I saw with reported failures were mounted on fwd cars, no bracing on the manifold/turbo/dp and no flex pipe. Most were cracked outside the weld too- a load failure from the cantilevered weight of the assembly off the thin wall tubing no doubt.

How many times must we post this shit. Search Ebay and manifold. It cracks, sucks donkey dick, etc. There is one member on here who uses it, but he has to have made so many mods to support it that its almost beneficial to have just bought a good one to start.

wildfire0310 08-29-2007 11:52 AM

we need a stick about the ebay manifold, about the people that have cracks with photos to show the crack so it doesn't look like hear say. Also with info from people who are running it, like you and Magma(i believe)

This way maybe the question won't be asked every week..lol

CleanableBat 08-29-2007 01:11 PM

I agree that manifold is JUNK! I wonder if anyone actually uses these things, whoever would pay even 100 for this thin walled easily crackable manifold is asking for it and hasnt done their homework. Spend 400 for a nice log manifold and be done with it, do it right.

cjernigan 08-29-2007 01:25 PM

Magna is using one, rmmcelwee did or still is. Rob at flipsyde installed one on his miata just to try it out. Magna had his coated i think, not sure if I cracked or not.

CleanableBat 08-29-2007 01:33 PM

A good coating would cost as much as the manifold does. The coating will help it slightly but wont stop thin wall stainless from cracking.

cjernigan 08-29-2007 01:46 PM

No shit.

Nice try andy even i see this as you :p lame FWIW caoting on mine was 140$ and included ceramicing the turbine housing as well. I did have a failure but it was after my brace failed. With my brace intact, i doub the failure would have happened.

m2cupcar 08-30-2007 09:17 AM

any pics of your brace? good info for those non-believers ;)

+1 wouldn't use one without a brace, but thats expected when buying it, right? :slap:

I don't get why people without welding skills try to cheap out on basic stuff like this. The manifold is a pain in the ass to be redone because it locates the turbo and by extension, locates the downpipe and intercooler pipes. If you constantly have to redo this part, you will suffer a lot for it.

Either do it yourself and save money or pay the proper amount to have it done well. A JGS manifold is cheap and will last forever. Lance's welds are good quality and haven't fallen apart on me yet after over 4 years. Once you realize that good welding is worth money, the decision becomes a lot simpler- how good is your welding and how much money/time do you have?

Chinacharger manifolds can be decent if you are willing to take them apart and reweld them. At least that is what markp said.

yeah i think so version 1.0 atlaest I made the steel to thin by the turbo area, and the heat and stress, made it give way.
Attachment 215925
Since then i made it abit beefier, i definatley notice a diference in how much exhaust sway i get with it on vs off.
