Which ebay turbo? Looking to buy one today

So for you guys running china turbos, please point me in the right direction. Links, details on your turbo (good or bad), etc etc.

I'm literally driving myself to not care about the car because I cant fucking decide on which one to buy. I have $$$ in my Paypal account right now that's been sitting in limbo for a replacement turbo for weeks on end now.

As long as it bolts in, flanges are straight and not warped to shit, and the compressor side of the turbo matches my existing setup (IC pipes and small enough inlet flange for the air filter), I'm ready to buy one today.

My current Garrett turbo is a .48 compressor and .49 turbine (I'm guessing that makes it a 2848?) Its both coolant and oil fed. And I'll have to have the wg welded shut seeing that I run a EWG.

Please help me out guys. Its so god damn nice out and the car just sits.....and sits. I have the cash and the time to work on it, I just cant get myself to order one! :vash:

I would feel way more comfortable buying from a seller that has proven, working turbos.

I found this one in his store - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Drift...Q5fAccessories

I'm wondering if the one you linked is too big or not.

Anyone else?

buffon01 05-24-2010 07:10 PM

He's had it since his 2554 died. Since then is been pushed to 26psi and ~300whp on a mustang dyno. Before the tubular manifold he was on a begi log making somewhat ~240whp @ 15 psi on a built 1.6. Look up his threads

I was also interested on this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T28-T...item2c4f074366

I have this one:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/gt28-internal-was...item35a97b2532

And am really happy with it. I just posted dyno results here:
https://www.miataturbo.net/dynos-timesheets-21/97-1-8-godspeed-gt28-turbo-%40-11-5psi-47750/

Be warned though, it does come with a 15psi actuator. Yes they say it is a 8psi actuator, but they lie. Found that out when I first took it out. 15psi felt great, but too much for me. I retrofitted a SR20 HKS wastegate on it that is set to 8psi, and just used my boost controller to turn it up. With a big enough exhaust and a proper tune, I'm guessing 15psi would put you at 250hp or so.

Someone had a ballbearing 3071R for $600 when I looked a couple days ago. Depends on what your HP and driveability goals are.

buffon01 05-24-2010 10:36 PM

He said the 2870 I initially posted might be a bit too big, I dont think a 3071 for twice the price is of much interest.

latena 05-24-2010 11:53 PM

I think I read somewhere that the godspeed turbos are a decent unit. Don't quote me. I am sure you could google them and see wassup.

Myspeed123 05-25-2010 01:03 AM

CXRacing. Thats what I'm running and I can't complain. A few mod's were needed to install, but nothing you can't figure out.

sixshooter 05-25-2010 07:50 AM

According to the specs that is a 2560 size turbo.

cardriverx 05-25-2010 05:32 PM

Im running a CXracing, working great so far (about 100 miles on it).

Jeff_Ciesielski 05-25-2010 05:37 PM

Another vote for CXRacing, just use a restrictor.

Turbo_4 05-25-2010 07:05 PM

I have this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Drift...Q5fAccessories

I bought mine whenever they were for around 150 or so...I'm not sure whats with the price increase.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm just going to bite the bullet today and order one. :)

I just cant decide on a size. I like how the car was power wise with the Garrett I have on the car now, so I'd ideally like to find something the same size, but it looks like I don't have that option.

Does anyone think going to the bigger turbo will make a huge difference in how the car drives?

Do not get that one. It's NOT a standard 5-bolt downpipe flange.

My 2871 is just as easy to drive as my 2554 was. Just much much faster.

OK I'm all set! Just ordered the GT2870!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=120574646411

Now I'll order all the other shitz I need to get this bar back on the road. I'm fucking paying insurance every month and it just sits!!! :vash:

Thanks again for all the help making the decision! :bigtu:

Phil, did you have to clock anything to make it work? From the pictures it seems that I should be good to go. Shows a side mount manifold and the regular 5 bolt dp flange, just like what I have in the car now.

Now I'm wondering if my existing oil feed/drain setup is going to work. I think it might not actually.

hingstonwm 05-26-2010 02:08 PM

Wow, 300.00 don't break the bank!!!

Seriously there are times that I wish I still had a miata engine in my project car. My turbo alone was 5x the cost of what you putting on.

I am interested to find out what kind of service life you guys are getting out of these chinachargers
