Just joined, I am familiar with forums.

I plan to get an NA Miata as a first car, and of course I want to put a turbo on it so its fast and goes SSSSSS U CHU CHU CHU CHU CHU CHU.

So I have a couple questions.

Is it better to buy a brand new turbo kit or find scrap pieces and make it work?
What are the best turbo kits that give the best bang for buck? (I want around 170 WHP)
What acronyms should I be aware of? I was reading threads on this forum before joined and was confused because I don't know all the turbo related acronyms you guys are using.

Answers to these will be awesome.

It's the sound of combustion chamber venting on every stroke.

 

Just spend a few hours reading lead foot. There is a mostly complete/ new FM kit for sale here for $1500 yesterday...

 

LeadfootLiam welcome to the forum and as stated above read, read, read, and when you think you know a good bit read some more. Not only on this forum there is more information on the internet about turbo charging than anyone could every need to know. If you spend a few weeks skimming and reading thru build threads you will have a much better idea of weather you want to buy a kit or build a setup. Good luck with your build.

 

My advice to all noobs here, it's what I did and it worked OK:

Start reading build threads. Stop when you get to the ones that have broken pictures (so pre-2010). If you still have questions after reading through 4+ years of build threads, then you can think about asking them. But chances are you won't.

 

Welcome to the forum. Make a post in the introduction section and.. well.. introduce yourself. This is probably as much as anyone is ever going to spoon feed you on this forum.

Best bang for your buck turbo system is probably going to be from BEGi if you want to go new. You can certainly piece together a system for less, but that requires a lot more knowledge. BellEngineering.net . Plan to spend right around $3k to "do it once, do it right." The turbo etc. can be had for relatively cheap, but if you want to do it right you need quality gauges, a new clutch, standalone ECU, injectors, etc. and that stuff adds up. Also, keep in mind you'll be switching to premium gas and synthetic oil. You gotta pay to play. Don't like it? Stick to N/A.

When you think you're ready to turbo your car, go read it again.

People will say "omg search" but in all honesty, I think the built-in search function is bunk. Start by going to the top, mouse over "Forums", then mouse over "Beginner's Luck", then click "Useful Saved Posts." Some of it is dated, and lots of pictures and links are broken now adays, but there is still a TON of knowledge there.

If you can't find it there, use google for your answers (you can add "site:miataturbo.net" at the end to get results from this site, eg: "ebay manifold site:miataturbo.net" if you're curious how people here feel about ebay manifolds).

Do all of that before you ask any more questions if you want people here to not hate you.

CHUCHUCHU again? Hahahaha stop posting and I will suggest you to start reading, as said before, there are lots of useful post that will solve your questions. If your aim is 170hp, I will go to a small turbo that spools quick, like GT2554R.
