Nice job on the fix. Glad it wasn't anything more.

Where did you get the tiny c-clip from?

hehe, It's the one that holds the actuator arm on. I'll have to stop this afternoon and get another one. They sell them in most hardware stores. __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |

lol that's what I was thinking. I'm also thinking we have a very similar turbo. It looks almost identical to mine and is having the same wga flapper issue. |
I was going to suggest checking that, but it seems you already found it. I fixed mine by just removing some material from the inside of the housing around the wastegate flapper. That worked for a while, but then I had the wastegate puck replaced with a larger one after a wastegate port, and welded it in place. I hope that clip holds up though. I would be unsure about it holding up for very long.

Very nice fix!

Uhm I think my Garret has a loose flapper door, dont they all?
Its just that Chine copied that but didnt create enough clearance. |
my 2560r has a loose flapper, if my dp isnt JUST RIGHT on the hot side of the turbo, the flapper sometimes gets caught on my wastegate tube. Might wanna take a small dremel tool to it just to make enough clearance.
|
The flappers are loose to give the seating some tolerance so it will seal. I think the chinacharge might have excessive tolerance. But you don't want it tight to the point that actuator spring can't make it seat flat against the turbine face.
|
I did a mild, lethargic search to see if you had posted a driving review of this turbo but didn't find anything.
Since you ran it back to back with a genuine 2560 what do you have to say about the China 2870? Full report please and thank you. **** EDIT*** I just saw the YouTube vid. where it was making some scraping noises, that probalby answers it right there........ |
Nice vid... mine is hitting the downpipe on opening right now...
I'll have to look for this problem too once the downpipe is off, much appreciated! |
I'm having the exact same issue. the turbo seems to shut the door fine on it's own, but if I unhook the WG arm, I can bind it in two spots. Now I know what to look for..
|
Got my issue fixed... wastegate no longer hits downpipe when opening...
Had to take off downpipe and enlarge the opening to the wastegate tube. Also bored 5 bolt flange to make it oval for finer adjustments when re-installing. Another issue was the the wastegate arm was moving up and down with WAY too much play when it is heated. Put a tack weld on the washer so it no longer moves. Boost Creep issue FIXED. |
Yeah my issue is jamming of the WG only when it closes and some minor creep. Gotta fix this before I get a dyno done..

Confirmed, same exact issue as OP, except I had secondary minor jamming on the FM elbow. I grinded the elbow down some and put a clip on the inside of the WG, should suffice I imagine.
|
Hmm, first I've seen of any chinacharger defect! Good thing it wasn't anything major...
p.s. I wonder if theres a fix for it BEFORE it breaks, for all those running china's out there |
It's not a break or wearing out, it's like this from the factory. A C-clip the same size as the one on the wastegate is of sufficient size to hold the flapper door in place and not take all the play out of it.
|
C-Clip fell off, binding again. Debating going EWG, but drilling the FM manifold is kinda.. hmm.
