Flanges!

I now have the ability to cut flanges in pretty much any thickness you'd want.

I already have the BP head flange, which I drew in cad last week, just need to cut one and fit it for testing.

I also have the mitsu (14b, 16g, 20g) turbine inlet and downpipe flanges.

To cut something custom, I either need what it's bolting to, or a gasket, or a really good drawing of the item.

I'm still working on pricing for materials, but I think I can be reasonable on pricing.

Nice. Price on 1.8 head flange in mild steel and stainless steel in 3/8" and 1/2" please!

And how are these cut? Waterjet? Laser? Wire EDM?

nester 06-05-2007 01:06 PM

Plasma.

Nester do you work for ZPI? I need some boost on my fiance's Xb.

magnamx-5 06-05-2007 02:23 PM

Nester works for them. but who would drive a XB TC is better. :p

Unless its a commercial unit... they can cut pretty clean.

I tend to like cnc/laser/waterjet first though for their cleanliness/precision.

Post up a pick of how the plasma leaves the flanges. Would help for those that picture Plasma as a handheld slag machine.

We have a commercial grade cutter, which goes with the table.

I don't have any finished flanges on hand right now, just some of our first prototypes with do look pretty rough, as we got the machine dialed in.. As soon as we got some good ones, we shipped them out asap..

As far as slag goes, it's very minimal. Most of it came off by running my finger nail over, the rest came off with a wire wheel.. you're looking at like 30 seconds to a minute of prep for a downpipe type stuff..

I will look for some pics and post later.

cocide 06-05-2007 04:49 PM

how long dose it take to make one?

cjernigan 06-05-2007 05:15 PM

We have a table CNC like that at school. We made flanges for my buddies scirocco, worked great and the edges were clean. The minimal slag was easily removed and we didn't find any real apparent flange warpage.

I need a flange for my T3 exhaust side it has a funky size. Would a paper template work? And how much. PM me your address and price.

y8s 06-05-2007 08:17 PM

ok so I was thinking oxy acetylene torch. :)

nester 06-05-2007 09:53 PM

it takes me between 10 minutes to an hour to draw something, it takes under a minute to cut something like a downpipe flange..

For example, we can cut 3/8" plate at like 35-41 inches per minute, and 1/8" plate at like 210 inches per minute..

Here's where we've been testing..

Here's a cut on a 1/4" plate..

3/8" plate

Here's the underside of the plate, for an example of the slag.

My fiance does bitch. They are actually pretty bad ass. She got 40 mpg with it loaded up on her drive from Colorado to Washington. They weigh under 2400 lbs so 150 whp would make it pretty entertaining to drive.

I need a 1.8l, 321ss exhaust manifold flange.

nester 06-06-2007 12:16 AM

I doubt I'll be cutting head flanges in stainless, and if I do, it'll be in 304.

All the manifolds we build are stainless pipe and turbine flanges, but mild steel head flanges.

cocide 06-06-2007 02:08 AM

so since I'm new here I can't pm but I do need a t25 discharge flange w/ a 2.5 inch opening for the downpipe. please pm me back if possible.

Markp 06-06-2007 10:10 AM

I love plasma cutters!

Dow.tom 06-06-2007 09:42 PM

Would you be able to make a downpipe flange for a SR20DET turbo? (wastegate side)

nester 06-06-2007 09:45 PM

yes, i just need a gasket, the part, or a really good drawing.
