delcbr 08-12-2010 05:13 PM

well spotted i agree with you.

Saml01 08-12-2010 09:07 PM

Need an independent source to file something like this to be believable.

dustinb 08-12-2010 09:45 PM

I love my chinacharger. I wouldn't go back to Garrett unless it was a killer deal.

dgmorr 08-12-2010 10:01 PM

That report looks pretty amateur

njn63 08-12-2010 10:17 PM

Sample size of 1?

lordrigamus 08-12-2010 11:58 PM

If you want an unbiased opinion on quality, search out one of the chinacharger threads here from people who have actually run them.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Garrett but believing you'll get an unbiased opinion from a comparison probably sponsored by Garret, done by a Garrett distributor is like asking a crackhead his opinion on drug use in America.

gospeed81 08-13-2010 07:55 AM

1. I can almost guarantee some poor intern was assigned this task. Has my work written all over it.

2. This is an EXCELLENT how-to for the Chinese on how to improve the quality of their turbochargers. I support this study...

Page 25 makes me sad.

Golferluke 08-14-2010 06:45 PM

The pictures on 5 crack me up, the "dirty" picture is so much darker, you can't even see the bottom of the manifold.

topsdrop 08-17-2010 08:46 PM

'Cool analysis/comparison. Thanks for posting.

Page 29 is pretty amazing, seeing the compressor wheel and how its not 100% circular.

Page 38 is amazing as well, looking at the oil journals. The filing of the oil journal looks terrible. I could do better than that in my garage! Hehe.

Those two photos are odd.

Looks like they are using different shutter exposures between the two photos, and the reman is photographed with a flash, whereas the oem is not.

Sorry, I take photos of product a lot so I notice odd stuff like that.

No...you gotta spend years in rehab and then magically give your career some major CPR to do that.

I don't see a problem with that, and found the report pretty interesting if only to have a look at the internals.

Some of the responses remind me of how people react when they've been snoped; blame the messenger. Sure it's a Garrett report, and sure Garrett has an ax to grind, but if you own a chinacharger you've got your own ax to grind too.

The chinachargers and re-manufactured units might work just fine, but I doubt they'll be as durable and trouble free as a newly manufactured turbo from any quality manufacturer. It's a bit like comparing Racelands with Bilsteins. They both work, you can find advocates for both, but they're probably not built to the same tolerances. Are they worth the difference in cost; that's a judgment call.

mgeoffriau 08-18-2010 11:28 AM

I don't know who this "Reman" company is, but I like their style.

Braineack 08-18-2010 11:34 AM

I thought you had the special "Shimano Biopace" compressor wheel.

Bond 08-18-2010 11:42 AM

Everyone knows oval shaped compressor wheels are more efficient

Thank you Brain.

See that's what I love most about this forum:
The regulars aren't god damn lemming panzies like OP. They actually do their own research and make their own conclusions/opinions about different parts and technologies instead of just opening up some biased ass bullshit link made by a company that's losing their sales to replicas.
.

I feel so at home:D

chicksdigmiatas 08-18-2010 04:08 PM

My chinacharger is for sale now after reading this........ to buy a bigger one.

Good point but the report does not mention sampling techniques etc. I think they are implying that the defects and below par design and components are not found n the Garret unit.
