garrett m24 turbo from 300zx

hi, it's my first post on this forum. i am going to turbo my miata '03 1.8L.

do you think that the turbo from nissan 300zx biturbo garrett m24 will fit my miata?

specs are compressor a/r 48. i dont konw yet what is the a/r for turbine side.

i guess it's t25 flange.

how much hp could it make. what is the pressure fot this turbo - do i need intercooler?

jobambo 10-15-2008 06:51 AM

Nearly any turbo from any vehicle will fit in a miata.

i understand that it will fit. but i am courios if it isn't to small one. how much hp it could produce from my engine. what;s the optimal psi. maybe some people from the club has already installed this turbo and could tell me some tips.

Saml01 10-15-2008 09:14 AM

Its too small.

My hair dryer could probably push more CFM than that turbo.

blaise 10-15-2008 09:18 AM

i just want about 200-220hp from 1.8L. is it really too small?

boileralum 10-15-2008 01:08 PM

On a 300zx with stock turbos, it is rare to see higher than ~ 390WHP, with two of them. It will spool quickly, but I wouldn't expect more than about 190WHP on a miata, and you will have to run 17-18psi to get there.

blaise 10-15-2008 04:20 PM

i was thinking about HP not WHP. for me at the beginning i would like about 150whp. would i have to use IC if i'd like to make 150whp with this turbo? about how much psi would give me this 150whp?

is gt2554 much bigger turbo? can it make much more power?

Saml01 10-15-2008 04:51 PM

Yes, its a much bigger turbo and yes it will make much more power.

Do yourself a favor and stop fighting us on the advice we are giving you. We arent telling you to get a 2554 or a 2560 and spend 500 bucks, but we are telling you to spend 200 bucks and pickup something that has been proven.

The more you re-ask questions that have already been answered the sooner we will direct you to the search functions.

No you wont need an intercooler for that kinda power number, but you will wish you had installed one while you were under the hood.

In addition the T22/25 out of the 300zx has a 4 bolt exhaust housing, so to upgrade the turbo to something worthwhile afterwards you will need to get a new downpipe as well, or at least get yours re-worked. I still have one sitting in the garage from one of my old Zs, but it needs a rebuild and I really want more power to start off with.

jobambo 10-15-2008 05:18 PM

Just get a t25 from an sr20. That way when your ready to upgrade to something bigger, your downpipe will fit most upgrades that are in the same class.

boileralum 10-15-2008 05:19 PM

Exactly. This is probably going to be the path I take, unless I win the Powerball.

blaise 10-15-2008 05:38 PM

ok, no more talk about 300zx turbo ;)

it's really hard to find t25 from sr20.

what do you think about this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ROVER-220-620-...d=p3286.c0.m14

couldnt find any specs so i am waiting for the reply from the seller

specs from compressor side (i guess): A/R .48 M27. is there a chance this one;s bigger than the turbo from 300zx. this one comes from the 2litres engine. and it's only about 150$

on the turbine side: a/r 49 - so i guess it's the same turbo as the one from 300zx :( too small :(

it's off a petrol 200bhp 2.0 engine running 11.5psi as standard.

Wow I guess I missed this thread.. lol... I'm using a turbo off 300zx same specs as mentioned. It's only been on the car for four years so I suppose it's not proven yet.

It's a great turbo for the street (at least in VT), has minimal lag and plenty capable. I know of another miata with one, They were running high 13's in the quarter. (I have never been to a track--no tracks in VT) I only run 10psi daily, and it has no problems holding 14psi to redline- probabaly not very efficient at that point...

I have picked up a 60 comp housing and wheel for it, but I haven't gotten around to it...

If you have a good turbo and a welder I'd say go for it... it'll take a custom DP, pretty easy to make though... If your looking at rebuilding then you'll want to change the comp housing from the funky chicken flanges- or make some adapters with exhaust flanges and 2" pipe ;) Or pick a different turbo as all ready mentioned (older T3's are cheap, easy to rebuild and are proven)

I first started wiht a Bipes, AFPR, & 6 psi without an I/C, but it was easy to add everything else after...

dc2696 10-22-2008 12:19 AM

I ran the same turbo for 2years, with a 3" dp I was hitting 10psi at 2100rpm, werd.

Beauty street/light track turbo, never out of boost. I couldn't get it to hold 14psi to redline though, with a big i/c and 2.5 pipes and a 3" dp she was maxxed out.(1.8L)

If you have it use it, but u will need a custom dp or buy my 3" SS one ;)

JimAtFSU 10-22-2008 03:10 AM

Don't dick around with exotic flanged turbos. Just get a junkyard five bolt T3 60 trim with a .48 AR turbine. Upgrade path from there is nearly limitless and pretty much guaranteed to not involve manufacturing stuff each time you swap turbos.

blaise 10-22-2008 03:16 AM

i think that turbo off 300zx is t25 flanged, isn;t it?... i wanted to buy manifold and dp from begi-s turbo kit which is compatible with t25 turbos.

is it possible to make this turbine spoil at about 3000rpm? i want it to be economical when i drive slowly in traffic jams.

boileralum 10-22-2008 03:47 AM

Yes, the 90-96 300zx turbo has the same flange as a t25/t28.

blaise 10-22-2008 04:05 AM

will the manifold and the dp from the begi-s turbo kit fit this turbo?

JimAtFSU 10-22-2008 08:27 AM

I thought the 300z turbo had a different DP connection, no? that is important too, unless you consider downpipe optional.

Manifold YES

Downpipe NOOOOOOO!!

The m24 has a 4 bolt exhaust flange(dp side) So you NEED to MAKE a CUSTOM downpipe or buy mine lol.

Like I said this turbo hit FULL boost at 2100rpm!!! Its spools very very fast and is very linear in power delivery as its a 48/48 comp/tur a/r.
