Unfortunately I will not be able to attend this year. There were a few small problems with the Miata that i did not get worked out in time. Also i found out last weekend that my girlfriends aunt was shot and killed in Afghanistan. I'll be attending her Funeral this weekend and spending time with the family. Hopefully with some luck and an extra dollar in the budget you will see me there next year.

I appreciate all your support, thanks!
I just called my friends that were down there in their 91 BMW 325is to get a quick update. They placed 9th auto-x and 11th in concourse. They also told me the same new about Kevin. Its nice to heard they are both doing so well. They also mentioned a 86 Vette that place 1st in the autocross but the odd part is that it had parts from an M1 tank, an extra engine in the passenger seat running a vacuum pump to suck air out from under the car to create downforce, and a twin turbo tuneport 350.

Third place indeed! I scored 3rd in the auto-x, 9th in the concourse, and since the drags were cancelled due to rain (arg), I placed third overall. I came home with two trophies.
The car performed exceptionally well. I'm a bit dismayed, however, that the drags had to be cancelled. With that, I don't feel as though my 3rd place overall finish is really justified. I wouldn't have landed that trophy had the drags not been cancelled. Regardless, I'm thrilled with the 3rd place auto-x finish. The car handled better than it ever has, responded well to input and had plenty of power. The only issue was overboost as I had overboost protection enabled on the MS. The tiny wastegate oraface on the turbo couldn't overcome the rapid pressure build that I'm currently seeing. I'm sure I could have moved up a couple tenths had the MS not killed power on the straights, but I digress. 15 PSI seemed to work well overall. I held on to second for quite some time by a mere 0.001 seconds until some good friends took over the 2nd place spot on their last run with their Civic(doh!). I'm not complaining at all, though, as I constructed and assembled the turbocharger setup on their car.
Next year is up in the air as I would like to build the 1991 Mercury Tracer LTS I have into AWD turbocharged go-fast machine. If I can wing it, I'll take the Miata again as well, but considering the nature of the GRM Challenge venue, the Miata is past her prime. I'm really happy that she trophied this year.

Found some pics I never got around to posting. Here is the car a week before I was suppose to go to the challenge. I was really rushed at the end and was trying to slap the thing together while making a huge mess. The car is still not fully painted because it got too cold out and I've kinda put off the project while I rethink a few things and gather more parts. So far the the budget is under $1500 and I haven't sold anything off the car. If this thing ever runs for more then 5 minutes, drives, and does not kill me I'm going to laugh because I really cheaped out on a lot of stuff. I should probably make a new thread but then I'd have to explain the whole back story.
Not perfect but better. Also I know the manifold sucks.
Found this mess after some light sanding. I spent way too much time trying to fix this and get it straight.

Yeah I bumped a really old thread but I just wanted to post an update on my project. The car is running, driving, and registered for the challenge. It even has paint. I've made a few changes since last year including Megasquirt, 550cc injectors, LC1, RB springs, intercooler, BMW TPS, and a ported 14B turbo. The intercooler set up is a mix of used ebay and junkyard parts. Cold side is pretty straight forward with 2.5 aluminum bends but the hot side starts off with bend from an old dodge 440 header, an ebay silicone adapter, an intercooler pipe from a Saab with a Bosch BOV, Some pipe and coupler from another Saab, and a silicone hose from a Volvo wagon. I'll have to post pics tomorrow because they are still on the camera back at the garage.
To hold you over here is a pic of something else I cheaped out on. This is my oil feed line. I cut the line that came with the turbo and reused the fittings. The stock banjo fitting was cut, flared, and spliced into a piece of brake line. Then it was spliced into the fitting that goes onto the turbo. The line should be good for a short period of time.
After getting megasquirt installed I could not wait to take the car out for a drive. Some assembly required.
bumpers were pretty rough, i had to remove a few coats of paint from the front and fix some damage to the rear.
Here they are after some primer. Sorry for the cell phone pics, I didn't want to get over spray on a real camera.
There are more pictures if you click the link below. Let me know if you have any questions, comments or can think of anything I forgot to do.

OK, now that the challenge is over and my family and gf are talking to me again I now have some free time to post an update.
Here is the pic of the hot side pipes I was talking about.
This is where I ended up installing Megasquirt. I think the install came out really clean but if I have a problem with MS (like if you discover that your GM EBC does not work at 1am the day before the challenge) you have to rip out the console and dash trim. I'd also like to say thanks to the board members who were at the challenge that helped me out. By 3am we had the car tuned for 15psi
Building a challenge car is not easy. In a rush I entered my garage in the dark to hit the lights to check out some parts I had painted earlier. My garage door got stuck so I ducked under and smashed my head off the corner of the trunk lid sending it flying. The new paint got scratched up and there is a small dent. I was more pissed off about the lid then my head.
Over all I placed 11th. I really thought I was going to be in the middle of the group. The ride hight was not where I wanted it, the alignment was off, and I could not get a good 60ft in the 1/4. Also bad wheel hop caused my oil line to break so I only got 2 good 1/4 mile passes in. Anyway here is how the car turned out for less then $2008.
I really need to remove those stupid hook things
