Greddy demod for Chinacharger setup

Okay Well, I've been wanting to demod my greddy and go with a cheap chinacharger setup. People have been having good luck with them on here and I dunno the greddy just doesn't seem like its what I want. So I'm looking for opinions here I know it will have more lag but I dont have access to any autocross etc.. and anyone running a chinacharger please chime in with if you like yours or not

I thought MarkP was the only one that ever ran one.

No I've seen some peoples sigs and it says "chincharger" or something of that context. I don't know what turbo exactly I wanna run but some cheap T3?
Kinda like what urbansoot was selling a few days ago

I honestly don't think you'd be happy dependability-wise going form a greddy set-up to a "chinacharger." If you want to ditch the greddy, just get yourself some quality pieces and do it right...I had a greddy and I've ridden in a few t3/t4 set-ups and they're definitely different animals but you can get enough out of a Greddy kit to keep you happy for a good long while (plenty of people on here proving that point daily)

Max out the Greddy.

I was going to say that you should lose the bandaids, then when ready upgrade to a bigger turbo. Since you've already got the MS, save up for a bigger setup. Super 60 would probably spool better than the chinacharger t3/4. Plenty people with 1.8s (not just mazdas) run the t3/4 and like the spool. Personally I think I'd go a little smaller with a 1.6.

But I don't know anything, I'm just watching football and keeping busy. :-)

I'm running the CC T3/T4. It works great. On that note, I voted for you to keep the Greddy. It seems that people are making huge power with the Greddy so why change it? Seems like a cheaper way to go with better spool (which most people want for whatever reason:)) and probably better long term reliability.

How many pounds are you currently running? I would finish up your supporting mods and do the turbo last.

Then i stand by my suggestion. You can take the greddy up to around 15-16 lbs (250-260 rwhpish) assuming your motor is not built. If you get to that point, and it isn't enough.. you will need to re-evaluate the turbo situation and furthermore how long your engine will last :)

turbobluemiata 09-16-2008 11:49 AM

yea I plan on upping it to 15 as soon as I get the clutch and torsen installed but Its not built so Ill probaly keep it at 12 or so

Another vote to keep the GReddy. Keep in mind markp had 300cc more displacement, 1000+ more rpm, and a much better flowing head. I'm not saying that a T3/T4 in the correct trim will not work well on a 1.6L, but unless you plan on building your engine, a GReddy can take you up to decent power levels with reasonable spool with supporting mods.

turbobluemiata 09-16-2008 12:30 PM

yea I think Im gonna keep the greddy until I drive with it at ~15 psi

Fireindc 09-16-2008 03:24 PM

Yeah, thats what i would do. It seems alot of people make 250ish whp with the Greddy easily. Much more than that and you need a built motor anyways, for my car at least I want to eventually run 16psi on WI/Meth.
