Greddy kit on my 93 1.6 HELP
Hello guys I've ran around this forum trying to find the right information about running this kit. I just want all the information together and not be scattered brained. Some of my huge questions are is with running this kit at 5 psi do I need MSD timing retardation? What sparks do I need to run I also grabbed a wideband to make sure the fuel riser is working where I need it to. Also could someone recommend some good oil lines with a link possibly.
Read the FAQ
I'm looking around and not just finding the answers I need can someone please chime in with a little help?
For oil lines, contact Artech on here. Abe makes a good product.
Thanks bud sent him a message and getting them ordered any other help with my set up though
You read the DIY FAQ and didn't find your answers in there? SERIOUSLY?
Finally came across the FAQ that I needed but see in the FAQ ut doesnt say if I need to retard the timing at just running 5 psi or even if I need to change up the spark plugs sorry 18PSI i thought this was a forum where fellow enthusiast come to help each other out

Thanks dustin so at 5 psi im good with my spark plugs? thanks for helping me with the MSD coil pack. I acquired a wideband to see if my air fuel is on tact if not I'll know I have some tuning to do
The only reason you would want to change your plugs is because they're getting old. If you go up to higher boost I think most of us are running NGK BKR7E plugs.
Changing your static timing is a cheap but crappy solution, since you'll lose a lot of oomph out of boost.
the real solution to all your fuel/timing needs is in engine management |
So you suggest MS PNP? with just the 5 psi?
If you're anything like 90% of the members here, you'll get bored of 5psi in about a week.
And then you'll be happy you have engine management to support 10-15-20-etc |

Assuming you survive the initiation, it's actually quite a nice place to be. :D

It's not that you require a MS for 5 psi of boost on a tiny little turbo, it's more that: A: We're control freaks, and B: As 18 said, nobody's ever satisfied with 135 HP. |

any sort of ems is better than just changing the base timing. I use the AEM F/IC, not the favorite around here, but it definatly gets the job done, and despite what people say, if you know how the basics, or know somebody who does, and take a look at the directions, its simple. and it a few hundred bucks cheaper than the MS. i got my AEM F/IC, plug n play harness, and a AEM UEGO for about $580, the ms pnp runs $750, and having a wideband is good for tuning, so id personally suggest one. if you only plan on running 5psi (which, im sure you will get bitten by the boost bug and raise it) then the AEM F/IC works fine, its good on the budget (which i was on a budget) i wish i could put my opinion in about MS, but i never used it, the advantage is basically, ms pnp has little perks like knock sensors, if you want it, launch control, the F/IC is basic fuel, ignition timing, and its a piggyback, not a standalone. well, i think i just did a ms vs f/ic thing :P im not a AEM retailer i swear. i guess my point is, you dont need MS for 5psi, the f/ic piggyback works just as good at that psi level... good luck :) |
I understand that 5 psi will get boring but it's a project for a reason I can't do it all at once I have a regular 9-5 its going to take some time I'm just making sure I have my basic set up ready. I still need a diff and much more its a project for a reason it all gets bigger over time. This is my first projct im only 19 it will be a success to me.
by the way i do have a wideband on the way i def want to make sure she is runnng perfect nothing towards the lean and nothing to the rich

But it looks like you've got your mind made up. Good luck. |

also, on a personal note, im 18, a college student, and i work roughly 25 hours a week, it took me 3-4 months to save money and buy everything. and about 15 hours of my time to install the kit. and if it is a project, and plan on working your way up, it doesnt mean you have to buy the cheapest, lowest level thing there is, look into the future of your project, and see what you will need then that you can use now, it will save you the hassel later on, and it will save you a bit of money. |

Retard the timing to 6 degrees, drive the car. You will want the MSD box.
Your right I do not have my FMIC yet but you guys seem to love cx racing's set up so I plan on getting one shipped out soon along with MSPNP but will it be ok to drive without for a bit just the greddy basic set up? with no front mount or bov yet. I'll have my wideband in so I'll know if its running like crap or not

Right I think I may go ahead and get my front mount because cx already has the bov flange on it and i just happen to have a greddy type s laying around
