Greddy TD04H V-band leak

Oh hai,

While tearing the car apart for a leaking transmission input shaft seal I encounter what looks like a v-band exhaust leak on the turbo itself. You can see the stain from the exhaust fume all aroud the v-brand clamp.

After a quick search I couldn't find any information about it.

The turbo is a TD04H with a 19T upgrade. I usually have a turbo blanket installed but it's off.

I never took apart a turbo assembly so I'm wondering if it's okay just to remove the clamp and see what's going there.

Any of you seen this before? A new v-band clamp would fix the issue? Or should I be looking for something else?

Thank you! :)

Looks fine to me, I know after I disassembled mine, it took a lot of fiddling for it to seat perfectly flat, and I kept being able to tightening for a couple days. Is it loose at all?

+1. Has discoloration and a slight bit of corrosion from living in a blanket. Doesn't look like an exhaust leak to me.

The clamp only provides a joining force -- it's not a seal. If you take off the clamp, you'll see that the turbine housing has a machined lip that fits tightly into the CHRA and provides the actual exhaust seal.

Don't be afraid to take off the clamp if you want to poke around. Easy to put back on.

if it was leaking, you're hear it.

if it was leaking, the discoloration would be black and sooty.

It looks like the clamp was not properly tighten. The clamp itself was not loose but the nut was not tight enough.

Here's some pictures

So I removed the clamp, cleaned everything and put everything back together.

I'll let you know guys how it turns out

Meanwhile...
