Default Help with turbo kit part

Hello! I am building a track car and adding a turbo to my Miata. I have the kit and there is a part that I am not sure what or where it goes. Does anyone recognize this part?
Thanks for your help,
Nicole

Yeah if you don't know what that is or what it does. You are going to have a bad time with turbo track miata.

Good evening, Nicole.

Shuiend wasn't being trite. He's got a point. There are many ways a perfectly good track Miata can lose an engine with an incomplete understanding of the components and the theories of operation behind them.

But, to answer your question, it is a wastegate, an external wastegate specifically.

Shuiend builds economical and durable turbo kits under the brand name MK Turbo.

What ECU are you using to control fuel and spark advance?

Thanks for being a lot more helpful and nice.... My dad is helping build the car and I am sure he knew what it was and I was trying to figure out on my own. Thank you for helping me learn. For on ECU I bought a pnp mega squirt 2 and not sure on fuel and spark advance. My dad bought me injectors too, however not sure on everything and we are figuring it out. I am super excited to get it on the track. Thanks for the help! Nicole

The megasquirt will control the fueling and the spark timing. It is the right tool for the job.

I don't have any sons and my daughter has no interest in learning about cars. She just wants a new phone. Let me know if you have any other questions. There really are lots of helpful people here. I think they were just amused by the question in thinking that you were taking on this project entirely by yourself without knowing what that part was.

Were are you from Nicole? There are a lot of people on this forum all over the world and a wealth of information. Post up in the meet and greet and start a build thread. Look forward to seeing the cars build

What is the history of this "kit" you speak of? Did it come off a running car complete? Mind taking pictures of all the parts that came with the kit? You made a good choice in ECU, so you are on the right track, but if this is the first time doing this sort of thing for both you and your dad, this is going to be a education.

You posted a picture of an external wastegate. With no other info. As far as I know none of the main turbo makers for the miata use an EWG, at least no like that. It is possible that is from a Bell AlphaOmega setup, but in that case you should have instructions and such.

Otherwise you have given us zero information about what setup you bought. What year the car is or anything. This leads me to believe you have some one off setup that probably isn't going to be track reliable. Building a turbo setup that is reliable on the track is not easy or cheap to do. The BP engine just is not nice to parts. From the question you asked I know you don't know enough to even start researching what it will take to turbo reliably. So based on the information you did give, I gave a very useful answer. You might not like it, but it is true.

We are not the nicest bunch of people here who just answer the same questions over and over. But we are by far the most knowledgeable when it comes to building fast track miata's. You either shut up and read and learn, or you get torn to shreds and fed to the lions.

WELCOME TO THE THUNDERDOME!!!!

Part of getting fed to the lions here is that we all see the same questions being asked from new people on a daily basis who dont do any research prior to asking. As long as you read and search before you ask questions most of the lions will stay in cages and youll be out of the thunderdome.
