Default Hesitation when on the gas

Hello all,

I'm hoping I can get some help with a developing problem. When I first installed my turbo (about a month ago), the car idled and ran very smoothly. Now, I have a bit of a lope at idle and when I give it gas (in gear or in neutral) the engine hesitates. It's gotten worse in the last couple of days. I've checked the plug wires and cleaned the plugs (the plugs were in great shape). And have found nothing. The only other thing I can think of is a coil going bad. Any idea?

Thanks for your help.

Tony

I'm not expecting someone to come fix it. I'm only looking for suggestions. Let me know what you need to know and I'll provide it.

decent signature
01 miata, t3 super 60, EMU, LC1, Devils own, stock internals.
Bad signature
Always "almost there"
To answer any of your questions regarding hesitation, fuel issues, timing issues, etc, we need to know what's controlling fuel, timing, spark, etc.

Fill us in with that information and then we can start diagnosing.

Off the top of my head though, I'd say you need to replace your wires/plugs. They go bad faster than you'd think.

Amagalla, you don't tell us **** that will help. We don't even know if you're talking about a Miata.

I know you've read posts in the past where guys tell NOOBs to put something useful in their signature that will prevent posts like the one I'm making now.

PUT A BUILD LIST IN YOUR SIGNATURE! It needs to mention what car, year, turbo, ECU, exhaust, **** like that. Your question "my car doesn't run right" with ZERO information about your build means we can't tell you ****.

In the case of this question, I have to assume because you say the plugs are clean that you don't think you're running rich or lean, that the AFR's are pretty good. That leads me to believe you're not running a bandaid setup, and that you have an aftermarket ECU of some sort. Aftermarket ECU's typically have the ability to datalog, but since you have no signature, and don't mention anything related to ECU's and haven't posted a datalog, that you are indeed running bandaids. NA Miata coils very rarely go bad, and since they're about $5 used, I'd think you probably would have found one on Craigslist already and tried a different one... which leads me to believe you've got a '99+, which nobody runs on bandaids... DO YOU SEE HOW ******* TOUGH IT IS FOR SOMEOBODY TO DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM WHEN YOU DON'T SAY **** THAT WILL HELP!

I've had plug wires that "looked" perfectly fine. Actually putting new ones on cured my off idle hesitation around 1900 RPM.

EDIT: I changed the plugs at the same time and they looked fine too. Honestly, it is not expensive to just buy 4 spark plugs and a set of wires.

+1 for changing the plug wires. I've had this same problem before.

I'll be moving to a COP install. I already have the COPs, the harness and the plug to connect directly to the stock harness. The only thing I need is the dwell reducer circuit that (obviously) reduces the dwell, but also allows the EMB to fire the COPs. It's on order and I expect to arrive by the end of the week. I have the feeling that it's a bad coil or wire (leaning toward a wire), but I don't want to buy a new set of wires since I'll be installting the COPs very soon.

The LC-1 seems to indicate that the AFR is pretty close to right on when not in boost. I hope that helps.

I have a build list in my sig now, so those of you screaming for one can relax now.

Thanks for your help.
