One Two Three, 300zx Turbos have a 4 bolt flange. just a warning incase you already have a downpipe. One: I'd stay away from any ball bearing turbo with shaft play you can't rebuild them. Two: Skyline T28 turbos are going to be a little bit small. Also see #1. Three: Z32 stock turbos use a .48 cold side, too small even for a Miata imho. For the OP: Keep your eyes on the classifieds at www.sr20forum.com, www.sr20-forum.com, www.g20.net, www.zilvia.net, www.freshalloy.net, and NICO posted above and you'll find a nice inexpensive t25 that will fit your needs sooner than you think. |
I just sold a fully functioning ready to bolt on T25 for 100 bucks on ebay.

t25's are everywhere kid, just be patient.

No but I've owned a turbocharged 4cyl car for 8 years thats had either a t25 or a t28 on it the whole time. I also know a good bit about which Nissan turbos are decent. I suppose an RB t28 might be ok for a 1.6 if you're only looking for 200hp or so hp but its generally considered to be a pretty lame turbo in the SR20 community.

COULD IT BE?!?!?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, IT'S NOT POSSILBE! ACK! A SR20 T25 ON A 1.6L??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! |
If it had a slightly larger turbine I bet that torque curve would look like an old guy's dick.

That second dyno graph looks very familiar...
From personal experience, the DSM .48/.49 is good up to 200whp with a great-flowing system. ECU+3"exhaust will get you there. This turbo is out of steam by 15psi. I've had several local dyno-guys get excited when they saw what turbo I was running. Universally commented, the .80/.64 mounted to an SR20 motor will make right at 250whp in a FWD application with full bolt-ons and a good tune. With a .4ltr smaller motor, for-crap head design, and slightly less RWD driveline loss, you can expect to max out around 230whp on a 1.6 Miata@15psi... again with an ECU+3"exhaust. 1.8's will make practically the same with 100rpm better spool and maybe 5ftlbs across the board. That second dyno-graph of the 1.6 was on full bandaids w/2.25" Borlas. I was heat-soaked after 6pulls and had to lift due to knock. But there was some great tuning done both on my fuel pressures, 02clamp, and Bipes settings. If I'd kept my foot in it, I'm guessing 210whp would have been on the table. You can make the same power on a GT25r with smaller exhaust, less boost, and crappier tune however... and enjoy significantly better spool. Overall, the SR20 T25 is (IMHO) the best bang-for-the-buck small turbo out there. You can get them for $100 all over the place, and everybody makes mani/DP's for T2 series pieces. The only shit thing about that particular Nissan OEM piece is the need to buy the ATP adapters for $80 or Dremel the flanges off to stick a coupler on them. |
The 2g DSM turbo is junk, that's why everyone steps to a 16g when it dies. I guess it's ok on a 1.6, but it's pretty junky on a 2.0.

I am running a T25 thats .80/.64 and its fan fucking tastic. I couldnt have asked for more.
|
hey sam the turbo you sold for $100, did you sell that about a week and a half ago? because there was one that I was bidding on and someone took it from me in the last 10 seconds lol
|
I'm sure the SR t25 is a fantastic turbo for a Miata engine, they spool fast, can be rebuilt if needed, and they make pretty good power. As mentioned above they are also easy to find at dirt cheap prices.

i had a stock turbo from a 85 300 zx turbo
it mad great power for what it was and its wasn't 200 its was alot more i have the turbo still if some one is looking for it i went to a precision 61 turbo waiting to install it |
The Z31 used a larger singleT3 turbo, definitely capable of a lot more power than a Z32 turbo.
Cool, I really like the Precision SC61 for inexpensive big power setups, I recently picked one up for our 240SX project. |
what was the response on that 300zx turbo and will you be willing to sell me ur downpipe and manifold?
