I'm sure the SR t25 is a fantastic turbo for a Miata engine, they spool fast, can be rebuilt if needed, and they make pretty good power. As mentioned above they are also easy to find at dirt cheap prices.

Two: Skyline T28 turbos are going to be a little bit small. Also see #1. http://www.boostedmiata.com/random/t3_vs_t25_wheel.jpg the wheel on a T28 looks mighty big in comparison. But wait, that picture is labeled T3 50 trim! Well, as you should know, a T28 wheel is a t3 wheel. As T25 + T3 = T28. While still sharing the same standard T25 turbine. |
If someone put down skyline t28 (.42/.48) next to an SR t25 (.80/.64) and made me pick, I'd take the t25 every time. I maintain my position that an RB20 t28 is too small when there are better options for the same price. Now if we were talking about an S14/S15 t28 or a GTi-R t28 (what I run) thats a completely different ball of wax.

But doesn't the skyline turbo have a T3 footprint? .48 in T3 = .64 in T25
Since A/R is defined as: the inlet cross-sectional area divided by the radius from the turbo centerline to the centroid of that area. And we all know a T3 inlet is much larger than a T25, so the numbers are not directly comparable. And even if that is not the case, buy a sr20 turbine housing and put the t28 in it ;) So, I maintain my position, that the turbine is the same, and the compressor wheel is a T3 wheel. Which makes the T28 a larger turbo with better potential. |
Alright I guess its probably silly to debate this without access to compressor maps and/or same car same dyno comparison numbers anyway. :)

do you want me to post the compressor maps? Was my picture of the two wheels not enough?

Actually I'd prefer if you would dyno your car with both setups back to back just to be sure. j/k :D
