Thumbs up I hate lag, NEW plans!

Im starting to get annoyed with my setup. the 16g im running just aint cutting it for my need im planning on an entirely new setup!

Will start gathering the parts soon. Please if anyone has any suggestions on parts i should or shouldnt buy feel free to post up.

-gt2871r

-BEGi's Cast Manifold (must get because i hate crack prone manifolds!)

-BEGi-S Downpipe: will get steel since i dont care about ss

-rx7 550cc injectors(running supra 305cc greentops ATM)

And all of this topped off with a Megasquirt PNP (the mspnp is running my current set-up)
thanks and let me know

You're a dumby if you think a 2871 is going to spool a lot faster than a 16g.

I was under the impression that the 2871r would spool right away.

Well if anyone can help me find the correct turbo to do the job that would be awsome!.

Im looking for ALMOST instant spool and being able to get around 250+whp with the manifold, downpipe and injectors im going to use

Thank you!

you need a 2560 the 2870 is more of a sidegrade for you in terms of spool.

the thing with the 2560 is i dont like the fact that i have to bolt on the flanged pipes, like the 16g. dont think this is the reason why i want to go for a different setup i just rather have a turbo to where i can just slip on couplers on the compressor side.

I'm not sure what the census is on how much better the SG dp is vs the reg one. I have a SGDP on my car, and although it looks great and all, its a major PITA to remove and makes for a tight fit.
If I were to do it again, I wouldnt bother with a SGdp...unless there's some real world testing that shows the SG allows xxx turbo to spool xxx faster than a reg dp

Just my cheap 2cents

FWIW I have the 2871 (0.64 AR turbine) and got it to produce 12 psi at 3300-3400 with the EBC duty cycle at 100%. It spools much later than that without the EBC.

I have the tubular manifold, a SGDP, and a 3" full Enthuza exhaust. I would get the S4 manifold for sure if I was you, and get the SGDP to help with boost creep. I had to hammer in the frame brace a bit, the one right under the clutch, to clear the small (wastegate) tube on the down pipe. Other than that it went in just fine.

What are you using to control the wastegate? If you have not tried a MBC yet, or open loop EBC on the MS, give that a try. Either will improve spool a lot. See this thread for more details:

So.. you'd rather spend $$$ to move to what amounts to a slightly more efficient iteration of the same turbo than actually achieve your goals. The 2560 suits your needs perfectly.

post your msq and a log. Is your sparktable tuned on a dyno? I'm willing to bet you can advance prior to target boost without detonation.

Is your title and sig correct? 10 psi and 168rwhp/155ft-lbs? If so, something's up.

OMFG! so i was messing around last night and switched my ebay 16g compessor housing with the original dsm 16g housing and WOW i spool crazy fast now! LOL

so this is how the story goes. i got a ebay 16g installed it and was leaking like crazy, ( i didnt have the oil return in gravity position so yeah..) i went and bought a real dsm 16g got the install right and all but the real dsm 16g screw holes on the compressor side where you hook up the j-pipe too was stripped so i used the ebay housing on the dsm CHRA and i remember there being like a 2-3MM gap between the compressor wheel and the housing but didnt think that would affect anything. well i fixed and retapped the holes on the dsm 16g housing and removed the ebay housing and put the dsm and wow there is no gap between the wheel and the housing so for sure it helped.

now gotta go buy the rebuild kit for the 16g because of its oil seals.

does anyone know if there are any cast manifold for the dsm type turbo's?

No cast manifolds for the DSM turbos for the miata though you can have a custom mani welded up pretty easily.
