Identifying oil line
99 Miata. The car had a VF supercharger installed at one point. Maybe 3 years ago or so. Guy before P.O., installed it, then it supposedly broke, the engine went kaput & he ended up replacing the engine without the charger. The details are still pretty shady. Well, there's some type of oil line still just hanging there. Would it be some type of oil feed? I'm in the process of turbo build & didn't know if I could use it as a supply or not. Hopefully you can see what I'm looking at here.

Based on that second photo, this is indeed an oil feed line. Normally, that hole in the block is just for the oil pressure switch. It now has a T fitting installed in it, with the pressure switch in the side and the oil supply hose on the end.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to consider replacing that rubber hose with something more significant, but that is an idea location to draw the oil supply for a turbo from. |
^Awesome! Well my supply line is sorted out now. What do you recommend to replace that hose with? Braided line?

One other question. Does the VF Supercharger for these require an oil drain?

Yep. It's so dumb.
Probably one of the reasons they are no longer for sale. |

Holy shit I've struck gold. Reason I asked is because that's the charger that was installed several years back on this car. My Dad pointed out an out-of-place hose a couple weeks back. Didn't think much of it. Welp, sure enough, I already have an oil return! Easiest oil return install ever.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1433360054 You can see the top held in with the clamp. And yes, I will be replacing that hose as well. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1433360054 |
your car needs like 10 gallons of degreaser/cleaner and a date with a pressure washer
|
^Don't get me started. I hate looking at it while working on it.

You haven't struck liquid gold, that's just an epic oil leak. :giggle:

Dammit I was about to say that.
Buy some cans of brake clean, and spray the shit out of all oil unions, disassemble, reassemble with quality parts, then get those areas super clean with brake clean again. Give it a week, and if it's still clean, carry on. |
^Alright. I'll have a go at it this week. Its so much better having clean parts to work on.
