If you were going to build an NC turbo...
What would you build? Not a -skys the limit budget- Say 3-4k
Anyone want to make me a fudging manifold? |
I'll only offer ideas if you swear off stripes and teeth. :p
|
Thats ok I'm painting them on next time, And i'll put even more teeth on just for you like a real shark 27 rows of teeth. Who needs room, IC's are over rated anyway.
|
Gt28 turbo.. Exede, Custom manifold, custom IC setup, ???? = profit?!
|
What are you going to do about engine management?
I don't see $3k going anywhere. Get some sway bars and put the rest in a Roth. |
Sounds like it'll all be custom. Who makes flanges? What other engines' flanges could be used (other Mazdas/Fords?) to prototype a manifold?
How much downtime can you afford? Isn't HKS (or maybe Blitz, can't remember) working on something? |
I'm pretty sure I could do it pretty well for $4K including a new turbo and Xede.
I'd likely run the following and do the fab work myself: GT3071R ($1250 new?) Homemade ceramic coated mild steel manifold (~$250) 3" home-made exhaust (pyper metal core cat, magnaflow muffler) (~$450) Biggest IC I could fit (like $150ish on ebay) Xede ($1,200) 550cc Injectors ($350) Clutch (don't know what's out there for NC, guessing around $450) IC Piping ($250 including couplers and t-bolts from siliconintakes) Reasonable used BOV ($150) So, minus my time that adds up to ~$4,500... of course a used turbo and injectors would get that below your $4K goal. *edit* xede for NC is only $900 |
isn't this the right time for a remote turbo? that's how BEGI did it for their prototype, I think there's a lot of stuff in the way on the exhaust side.
|
Apparently all the turbo stuffs will fit with a battery relocation kit.
|
The MX5's that race in Koni Challenge with us are fast man. I'd throw some sick cams in it and leave it be. Talk to Freedom Motorsports if you want more info on that.
|
I would personally remote mount the battery to open up space... I still don't like the idea of a remote mount turbo...

I have to do some repairs to the beyatch anyway for a couple weeks. So while the front clip is off... |
Get an exhaust gasket and send it off to some company that makes flanges. They'll send you a flange to start building a manifold. Weir Technologies offers said services, but I would NOT recommend them if timely has ANYTHING to do with with your build. So find someone besides them and get a flange made. If you can't fab a manifold buy the flanges and stock and take it to a fabricator and cut him a check.

What other options, do you guys recommend for a turbo? Making power early is more preferable to me over max top end, If that makes any sense. |
the GT2560 is the universally accepted turbo here for good everything without sacrificing anything. There ya go. If you don't "conform" to use it, then you should maybe mention some of the goals of the setup, and which are more important than others. Seeing how you can't have everything, the GT2560 seems to be the compromise of options most here accept. That said, I'm getting a GT32. :)

I'd say with a 2.0 get a 2860RS or 2871. Preferred turbos for other 2.0's.
edit: Good move on the Turbo NC. If I had the money, I'd own the NC. I love that car. I think its one of the most attractive cars on the road. |

At 9k for an 08 with 2k miles, I can live with the tail lights even if they are kind of pimpish.
|
9k?! Thats a helluva deal! You can purchase red film covers for the tail lights if you wanted.

Educate me, What is the difference between 2860RS - 2871 - GT2560
As far as goals, other than actually completeing it, I would like more power in the low end of things. |
