It's alive! ALIVE! OMG BOOST, DO ME HARD
Tune sucks ass, but it drives. Feels like accel is kicking in, but i have it off, now it seems when the fans kick on it stalls when i press the clutch in ;) At least I can drive it.

Sweet deal man. Must feel good to be (sorta) back.

Good to see it back on the road. I am sure your are (somewhat) relieved to get it (sort of) running.
|
it even looks as if it settled a bit, congrats, i know the feeling (sort of)
|
To the casual observer, you haven't changed cars!
Looking good! |
Awesome. I like the wheels and the exhaust.
Exhaust questions: 1. Did you fabricate it yourself? 2. Reason I ask is I am thinking about doing the same. It looks like you used the following: - 2.5"(ish) to 3" adapter at the DP flange - 3" straight run to the diff - 45 deg 3" mandrel elbow at the diff - 90 deg 3" mandrel bend to the muffler - something like a 10-15" Magnaflow - can't see it in the picture but presumably another 90 deg 3" from muffler to bumper Is this about right? |
It's an Enthuza exhaust, I had to get rewelded since I smashed it up.
the midpipe has two mandrel bends on either end, the axle back is simply two 90° bends. |
Scott, I thought you sold your car? :dunno:

Looks great, not sure how its so clean, guess that is another benefit of having a garage. Mine is a disaster right now due to pollen, leaves, and other crap in the air. They did a good job on the exhaust repair as well.
|
Thats bad ass man!
That car looks like it just came of the lot. The paint is amazing for a car in it's teens. |
I thought you got rid of the Miata and bought an Altima or some shit. :giggle:
|
Needs more hood vent.
|
really like the exhaust
|
three more....

Well this new car definitely looks hot from the distance at which you took the photos. Congrats on getting back in the saddle! |
Scott, what size are your wheels/tires?

|
I thought they were 16's.

Looks great! From the back view it looks a lot like mine! (same color, same wheel style, same exhaust, hardtop, etc.)

dunno exactly where to measure from, but when i line it up to the inside of the inner lip (where the tire mounts against), and then to about the same spot on the other end, it's 8.5" give or take....hard to tell might be 8" but from what i can research they came in 16x8.5 not 16x8. also at 16x7 205s, from what ive been seeing online, look like the bubble out more, not a slight stretch to them. this is news to me, i really wanna know. http://www.boostedmiata.com/new_miat...re_outside.jpg http://www.boostedmiata.com/new_miat...ure_inside.jpg the 4 stickers that would end the debate were painted...ill try to remove and scrape off the paint tomorrow. |

I like the car in sig thing too, Brain. Would you mind if I copied you?
|
k confirmed, 7.5" they still measure like 8.2" inner lip to lip... but this concludes the debate:

so...clean...
|
Wheels always measure wider from lip to lip that what the are specified as.
|
awesome, one more picture!

I like that front lip, looks good.
The mt.n sticker is a nice touch. Though, now that I think about it, we should make you print out a HUGE version of the one at the top of the page and make you install it on the rear window :giggle: Your penance for making us suffer with that ghey logo. Funny, but ghey. |
OMG i love boost. seeing 8.2psi on my log so far. Porting the wastegate helped with creep now i just need to grow some balls and take it wot. Tune is much better, changed a few settings and it's almost as good as it was.
funny note: New IC is working great, barely seeing a rise in temps; only 3°F on that 8psi pull to 6k, however, my CLT temps are higher  |
wouuu . the car look so pretty.! no scratch at all.!
congratulations scott .! well, now I have to say, all last for the moment I CAN BEAT YOU.!!. haha .! |

you're basing the IC effectiveness on air temp at idle vs temps seen during the 8psi pull, right? no before/after air temp guages, etc?

on my last car i was seeing more like 170-180 cruise, now im seeing around 190 cruise and the fans are coming on more often. i did block about 75% of the radiator, where before it was more like 40%. plus i still have my license plate in the way
based on my old logs, the IC does a better job, but as i suspected at the cost of the cooling system, hence why I'm making an extractor hood. pics of wastegate port: http://www.boostedmiata.com/turbo/wa...e/CIMG1365.JPG http://www.boostedmiata.com/turbo/wa...e/CIMG1366.JPG http://www.boostedmiata.com/turbo/wa...e/CIMG1367.JPG enlarged it 15%, .88" to .92" IIRC, and added a small channel to help the flow. |

well since i know the temp just before i boost it, it's kinda like that. 82° before boost, 86° at 6k and 8.2psi....never saw such a low rise before. FWIW, I used to see a 17-20°F delta with my old IC at 12-13psi....so i just need to man up and start tuning boost and taking more logs.
I dont remember, but you had to sac your AC to fit that IC right? Also, did you do the port with a die grinder on the inside? What did you drill the hole with? Press? |
You just need to build a motor and stop worrying about blowing things up...;)
At least your shit is in the car though. |
Extractor will fix that temp rise :D
|
Get that scoop installed already. Im curiuos as to how much a difference you see.

built motors are bandaids for not knowing how to tune. :noob: |

Dremel with die grinder bit. maybe 20 minutes worth of working, checking with a digital caliper as the work progressed. You got the hole that round with a die grinder, impressive. If my shit creeps, I may just have to follow in your footsteps. |
you don't have a coolant reroute, do you, brain? i need to do something either in that department or an extractor hood soon. cruising on the highway last weekend, after about 30min at 4krpm, my temp guage needle was sitting probably 2/3 of the way up. i wasn't logging at the time, so i don't know exactly what it was, but i didn't like seeing the guage there, since i'm used to seeing it between 1/3 and 1/2 mark, as far as sweep is concerned...
|
once the fans kick on, im fine. and yes i have an extractor hood in the works. no coolant reroute bullshit :) im not overheating, just normals operating temps seem higher than my previous setup, which is fine.
|
I seriously have to figure out this CLT sensor stuff on my car, im still letting it peg at 215. Thats def not gonna be good with a turbo on the engine.

Were you fixing boost creep with the port job? did it work? notice any difference? |

Damn, my water temps peg 220 with turbo and thats only if im sitting still for too long. The hood deff helps but I think my fans are the weak point.
My MS reads the temp off the sensor wrong because the resistance values or bias resistance value is incorrect. There seems to be some confusion with the 96/97 cars in terms of that. |

levnubhin those temps seem high...I never see above 212 on my Scangauge even when beating on it. This is with stock cooling as well, should drop even more with the oil cooler installed. |
