I was staring at my crap in the garage the other day, and while scanning across the mess, I saw one of my T2 turbos, and my ghetto go-kart... then I had an spur of thoughts... which made the standard equation...

turbo+go-cart=booossstzzz!!!1!sndkggfdgkj

so far, here is my progress

Edit: shit, I forgot I was in the DIY section, if this can be moved to the media section like I thought I was in, that would be super:greddy:

lol I dont know yet, it does spin on idle when I just put the turbo on the exhaust pipe and hold it there...

that turbo was already shot... But we did look into using a fuel pump..didnt work, then we used a diesel lift pump and it worked great.

We later got a TINY TD03 turbo off of a kabota diesel in one of our toro mowers at work and started fabbing that up... we never finished it tho.

Well, if my T2 is not small enough to spool, that thing should do the job! Must be one hell of a scream tho at full spool... I would put that on my 4-cycle weed eater!

turotufas 04-25-2010 01:47 PM

My neighbor wanted to sell me a kart frame on the cheap with disc brakes and stuff. Told her no because I can't fabricate nothing. If I knew how to weld. I'd do crazy shit like this though.

Pen2_the_penguin 04-25-2010 01:53 PM

I am totally stoked to finish this now, except mine wont be as pretty, since its 80% made from left over propane gas piping, and scrap parts. After work I am headed to harbor frieght for more shitty welding wire to finish up.

that dude has one hell of a severe case of turbo-tosis.

Sparetire 04-25-2010 02:14 PM

"Look ma, no head.."

turotufas 04-25-2010 02:24 PM

My friend Wassem made a jet engine in high school, like 9th grade. Crazy Lebanese! I forget which turbo he uses.

Pen2_the_penguin 04-25-2010 04:49 PM

What should I use for the charge piping... here are some ideas I came up with.

-PVC

-welded up steel pipe with small coolant hoses for couplers

-or just coolant hosing for the whole charge pipe

18psi 04-25-2010 05:05 PM

If/When that thing spools you're going to shit bricks then die:giggle:

chicksdigmiatas 04-25-2010 05:27 PM

I would just use coolant hose the whole way. It holds 14 psi of coolant.

oilstain 04-26-2010 04:37 PM

Do up a powerwheel!

Jeff_Ciesielski 04-26-2010 04:43 PM

FYI those tiny ass turbochargers are a mitsubishi TD02 footprint . They are pretty hard to find, but occasionally they pop up on ebay.

Edit: I'm the shit and get tons of bitches.

Td02 for sale

Specs:
MHI P/N : 49130-01700 / TD02MR2-035K-1.9S
Comp. Wheel : 25.77 / 38.99mm
Turbine Wheel : 26.42 / 34.06 mm
Bearing System : Journal Bearing

Stein 04-26-2010 05:35 PM

Someone (maybe even me, I don't recall) posted up a go kart with a turbo from a Smart a while back. The compressor is something like 20mm IIRC. They are available on ebay for $125 or so.

EDIT:

It was the turbo shopping cart thread.

https://www.miataturbo.net/showpost....64&postcount=9

krissetsfire 04-27-2010 12:47 PM

 ! I laughed when i saw the cart ... then the lawn mower.... i agree epic thread!!!! bahaha. I know it's no go cart but i put a td04 on my 03 r6 when i was 19 i didn't think about changing the gearing either it was cool but not as fun to ride without new gears :( front end lifting up at 80 is no bueno.

Version3 04-27-2010 03:48 PM

This reminds of the Turbo bar stool

http://sdsefi.com/features/stool1.jpg

http://sdsefi.com/features/apr00stool.htm

One of my neighbors a few years ago had one, had no clue how fast it would go, or even what it felt like to be on. He bought it because he wanted to watch his dumbass drunk friends wreck it when they got the ballz to climb aboard. I recall two drunken curb flips while I was living there.

WonTon 04-27-2010 03:52 PM

that is pure fuckin awesomeness!

That too!

but for sime reason turbo + engine + bar stool is just crazy!

Version3 04-27-2010 04:19 PM

Yeah, it's too bad the guy that built the barstools let his site go. I can't remember how expensive they really were, but seems like something you should just have.

I always wanted one with a remote control, throw a zombie on it at Halloween or something nutty.

Rallas 04-27-2010 04:24 PM

I saw this last week and was wondering what it ever would be used on.http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0080_large.jpg

Now I know!

The wastegate actuator is almost as big as the whole turbo!

WonTon 04-27-2010 04:28 PM

i need that for my toyota tercel (aka shit box)

link to where i can buy that please?

Version3 04-27-2010 04:31 PM

I get that there are projects you can use these little turbos on, but what kind of hardware are they actually manufactured for?

Maybe a gas/turbo powered Rascal would be a good project.

krissetsfire 04-27-2010 04:42 PM

 that's beautiful. the exhaust is amazing bahahahhaa......

Rallas 04-27-2010 04:43 PM

This is where I got the picture from. Tops out at 60 hp so might be a little small even for a Tercel.

http://www.blouchturbo.com/turbos/result/

WonTon 04-27-2010 04:45 PM

yeah....your right.

my shit box's lack of power pisses me off! the 4 speed gear box sucks too. haha

turotufas 04-27-2010 04:51 PM

Around my area all the homeless guys run on motorized bikes. I asked this guy Bundy how he did it. He was like a chainsaw and gatorade bottles. Pretty soon all the kids had them. I'll boooost one of them.

its been awhile since I even worked on this, but I took a break from the norm and dug this out of the garage. Got to work on it, fully weld up the manifold today, drilled out a little bigger diameter bore in the carburator main jet, and got it temporarly running "okay" for the most part. I first put a spring to keep the internal wastegate closed, but added too much pressure to the carb that it kept dying on WOT. The charge pipe is a temp thing too, since its just a small household vacuum tube... lol. I plan on using a coolant hose, eventually. My next plans are as follows:

-weld up an aluminum gas tank, that WILL be pressurized to 2psi...

-modify a small propane tank to hold the compressed air

-use a compressor pressure regulator, to keep 2 psi constant, plumbed from the compressed air tank to the gas tank. This and the previous two, will ensure fuel under boost.

-The next thing is an idea of using a spare power steering pump from a 1.8l miata, and using it as an oil pump to feed the turbo, from a separate oil tank, of which I will also fabricate for fun.

- weld up the rest of the exhaust to make it neat and not halfassed like the retards on youtube.

I have this vid, its kinda a teaser, since its a spool test. I took this vid to show that a T2 is small enough to spin at idle on a 10hp engine.
I will try and finish it by the end of this week.

edit: dont mind the long useless shit at the end, I thought I hit the record button again... obviously I didnt.

Pen2_the_penguin 07-15-2010 02:06 AM

update: Apparently, to make it successful, my grandfather (master of boosting carburated V8s) said I would have to do less if I just fabricate a custom mount and intake piping that puts the carb in front of the turbo intake. He also sugested finding a marine or larger carb... discuss and I will take the idea with the most pro's than cons and make it reality!

WonTon 07-15-2010 02:10 AM

that seems like it makes sense. dont most oldschool V8's put the carbs on top of superchargers?
